Kansas falls in Big 12 Tourney Championship Game

Jayhawks blow big second-half lead, fall to Iowa State 70-66.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Good grief what a frustrating second half.

After playing well and mostly dominating Iowa State in the first half, Kansas absolutely blew a 17-point lead and now Iowa State gets to call themselves "Big 12 Champions."

KU had a 5+ minute scoreless stretch and two 3+ minute scoreless stretches in the second half as ISU outscored Kansas 47-29 after halftime.

Disgusting.

Wayne Selden led all scorers with 25 points on 8/12 shooting.  Frank Mason was the only other Jayhawk in double figures with 13 points on 2/11 shooting (he had 8 pts from the free throw line).

Iowa State won the rebounding battle by a 37-34 count, including at least three offensive rebounds by ISU with a minute left and the game tied.  Freaking box out someone once in a while, criminy.  Perry Ellis led the Jayhawks with 9 boards while Lucas and Selden each added 5.

As a team, Kansas shot 5/12 (41.7%) from 3-pt range while ISU went 2/16 (12.5%) from behind the arc.

Kansas hit 21/23 (91.3%) free throws to ISU's 16/24 (66.7%).

Up next, KU will await their NCAA Tournament destination on Selection Sunday.  Join us for the Selection Show Open Thread tomorrow afternoon.
