Scouting Report

Jace is listed as a weakside defensive end on many recruiting websites, but you might see him in another position when he gets to Lawrence. He is projected as a tight end so the offensive side of the ball is where he could make his name as a Jayhawk. In his senior year in high school, Sternberger caught some passes (34 receptions for 434 yards and seven touchdowns), and occasionally ran the ball (123 yards on only six carries, scoring two TDs), but really shined on defense.

And it’s still possible that he could get some reps on the defensive side of the football for KU as well.  In that senior year, he made 80 tackles (59 unassisted) and recorded a whopping 20 sacks.  He’ll have to get bigger and faster if he wants to put up numbers on the defensive side of the football in the Big 12, but Sternberger seems like a guy who will work towards a goal.  He is quoted as saying, "Coach Beaty has a plan and I'm completely sold on it."  That’s music to the ears to many KU fans.
