Scouting Report
Last season at Trinity, Stewart was able to rack up some solid numbers, registering 52 tackles while picking off three passes and forcing a fumble in 12 games.
While watching tape on Stewart, his tackling ability is what initially stood out to me. For a corner, he does a very good job of tracking the ball carrier and taking a good angle to the ball. He also seems to have a bit of mean streak to him; he is willing to take on blockers and doesn’t appear to shy from contact. Coverage wise, he appears to have good speed but appears to be a bit raw. His height and physicality should prevent bigger receivers from taking advantage of him, however he will need to refine his technique to be able to stay with the league’s quicker receivers.
Overall, Stewart is a big get for the Jayhawks, a defensive back with nice size and some playing time under his belt in Texas. Given the losses we’ve had a cornerback, don’t be surprised to see Stewart on the field early and often for the Jayhawks.
