Jayhawk softball is off to a 10-0 start, tying the school-record for consecutive wins to begin a season. The record-tying stretch includes four shutouts by Kansas pitching.
Kansas also set some single-game school records in their ninth win against New Mexico State. In a game that saw the Jayhawks win by a 25-12 score, Kansas set team-single-game records for hits (23), runs (25), RBI (25) and doubles (7). KU also hit three grand slams in that game, one slam in three consecutive innings (the first, second, and third innings).
So far in 2015, KU has outscored their opponents by a combined 81-27. Six of KU's starters are hitting over .340 for the year, and staff ace Alicia Pille is 5-0 with a 1.89 ERA, five complete games, and two shutouts.
After sweeping through their first two tournaments to open the season, Kansas will have a chance to set a new program-record in their next tournament when they face Mercer to open the Aquafina Invitational in Gainesville, FL on Friday, February 20. The matchup with Mercer precedes back-to-back games with the defending national champion and preseason #1 ranked Florida Gators over that weekend. By this time next weekend, we'll have a much better idea of just how good the 2015 Jayhawks might be.
