Kansas Volleyball earns #9 national seed

Jayhawks to host first and second round of the NCAA volleyball tournament.

Kansas has been seeded #9 in the 2015 NCAA Volleyball Tournament.  The Jayhawks are in the San Diego region, and should seeds hold, would face #8 Stanford in the Sweet 16.  This would also set them up for an Elite 8 matchup with top overall seed, #1 Southern Cal.

Furman, the Southern Conference champs, will be KU's first round opponent.  The winner gets either Missouruh State or Missouruh.  That's right - the Border War could renew on the volleyball court right here in Lawrence, KS.

KU's first round match against Furman is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 PM.

You can take a look at the bracket here.

As a reminder, the tournament is a 64 team field. The top 16 teams are seeded and host first and second round matches. (With the exception of 16-seed Creighton this year, who did not submit a bid to host.  Therefore, they'll be traveling.)  The remaining 48 teams are placed according to conference affiliation first and proximity to first-round sites second. (The Tournament tries to avoid conference matchups in the first or second round.) Regionals (Sweet 16 and Elite 8) will take place at predetermined sites.

Games will stream live on NCAA.com and KUAthletics.com, free of charge.  Alternatively, KU will stream matches live at YouTube.com/KUAthletics. Fans can listen to radio play-by-play on KUAthletics.com/radio. You can also monitor the action by following @KUVolleyball on Twitter.
