Kansas mauls UCLA 92-73

Jayhawks get hot in the first half, put away UCLA in a game that was never close.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Chaminade hung with Kansas better than UCLA did.  The Bruins trailed 8-7 at the 17:45 mark, but then the Jayhawks turned on the jets, going on a 20-3 run, and KU coasted to a 26-point, 59-33 halftime lead.  The Bruins outscored the Jayhawks by 7 in the second half, but were never in game after the second TV timeout of the first half.

Final score - Kansas 92, UCLA 73.

Stats

Perry Ellis led all scorers with 24 points.  Three other Jayhawks scored in double figures: Mason (16), Selden (15), and Svi (13).

Mason led the Jayhawks with 7 assists each.  Even more notable, he was not charged with any turnovers.

It was truly a team effort on rebounding tonight, as Kansas won the overall battle on the boards, 35-28.  Ellis led the team with 6.

As a team, Kansas hit 10/23 (43.5%) from behind the arc.  Selden hit 4/5, but Svi only connected on 2/9.

Once again, Clay Young, Tyler Self, and Evan Manning got some PT.

The crowd chanted "Free Diallo" during the broadcast in the second half, prompting the announcer to talk about it again.

The Rock Chalk Chant was also loud and clear in the final minute of the game.

The only tie in the game was 0-0, which lasted for 36 seconds.

Kansas never trailed.

Takeaways

This was... domination.  There's really no other word to use here.  I'm honestly not even real sure what I saw at this point.

For the second night in a row, all thirteen Jayhawks who came to the game in warmups recorded minutes.

Svi got lots of PT again (22 minutes) and once again really let it fly from behind the arc.  Unfortunately, he wasn't as on target as he was against Chaminade.

Nice to see this team keep taking (and hitting) 3s.

Has the three been freed?
