Mitch Lightfoot Picks Kansas

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Mitch Lightfoot, a forward from Arizona, became the first member of Kansas's 2016 recruiting class today. Lightfoot is a 6-8 forward who is listed at just 200 pounds, but a summer or two with Hudy will fix that in a hurry.

Lightfoot is ranked outside the top 100 by Rivals and ranked 132nd in the 247Sports composite, but had offers from several good schools, including Arizona and Utah. Lightfoot is described as a high energy player who right now is more of an inside guy but will probably develop into a more hybrid or perimeter player over the course of his career thanks to his explosiveness. He probably won't be a star for the Jayhawks in year one, but Lightfoot has the ability to develop into a very good player down the road. ESPN's Fran Fraschilla says "his athleticism is off the charts" and ESPN's Jeff Goodman compared Lightfoot to former Wisconsin Badger and NBA first rounder Sam Dekker.

Lightfoot probably won't be the highest ranked guy the Jayhawks grab in the 2016 class, but 3 years down the road he has a chance to be the best.
