Congrats to my man, John Smoltz, on going into the baseball hall of fame. Anyone want to help fund my trip to Cooperstown for the induction ceremony?

Scott Drew, who is 3-13 against Bill Self’s Jayhawks since taking over in Waco, Texas, has coached BU to 12 straight victories at the Ferrell Center. Wouldn’t you know it, the Bears’ last home loss came to Kansas on Feb. 4, 2014.
"Our most consistent player this year so far? Frank, hands down," Self said. "I don't want to say that he's our best talent because I still think Perry (Ellis), when he's playing well, can put up numbers. But Frank's been our most valuable player easily, and (that's) in large part because when Devonte' (Graham) went down, we didn't have another point guard, really, in our program."
“This will be the hardest year for us to win league. Whoever wins it will earn it because you’ve got to go through a lot of good teams,” Self said, adding, “I like Baylor’s personnel a lot. I like how the pieces fit. Their zone is active. They are very deserving of their ranking.”
Oh, sure, the cool kids doubt them. It's hip and rad and all those other pimply hyperboles. When Kansas wins, it wins, same as it ever was. Not news. When the Jayhawks lose, ah, there you go -- it leaves a mark, a hot iron brand in the back of the cortex. Kentucky. Temple. For all the acres upon acres of armor, the focus is on the chinks. Sorry. Not sold yet. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 10 times, shame on Ken Pomeroy.
The Jayhawks have won 23 straight conference openers dating to the 1991-92 season. The last loss was at Oklahoma in 1991.
“Thanks,” KU’s 12th-year coach said with a smile during Monday’s weekly news conference in Allen Fieldhouse. “I guess it (opener) is (important), but it’s not the end of the earth, either. It’s a long season. Eighteen games is a long time, but I really appreciate you pointing that out, though.”
This game will tell us a lot about both teams. Do the Bears have the talent to keep up? And are the Jayhawks fitting into their roles and becoming better?

Kansas head football coach David Beaty announced the hiring of six members to his coaching staff, including the arrival of four on-field assistant coaches, on Tuesday.
Cal assistant coach Zach Yenser will join Beaty's staff as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Energetic, genuine and a lot of fun were three of the phrases that came up most often and, a quick Google search on Likens uncovered a couple of videos on YouTube from when Likens was mic'd up during a couple of Cal spring practices last season.
Kansas' Rock Chalk Dancers are now offering private dance clinics, at which one or more Rock Chalk Dancers will work one-on-one with dance teams. The Rock Chalk Dancers and their coaches will customize the material to each team's interests and skill level and even teach at your preferred location.

So close, Ole Miss. So close.
Kentucky withstood three final Mississippi attempts to rally before escaping with an 89-86 OT victory Tuesday night to win its Southeastern Conference opener and keep its hopes for a perfect season alive.
Green-Beckham, who transferred from Missouri in April 2014 after several run-ins with the law, never played a down for the Sooners. He was not allowed to play this season after the NCAA denied the school's request for a waiver that would have made him eligible to play immediately.
The trophy and a Simpson jersey were stolen in a July 28, 1994, burglary at Heritage Hall, home to USC's athletic department. The recovered Heisman is the duplicate that is given to the university of the winning player and not the one given to Simpson himself in 1968, police said.
The NCAA has announced a "pilot" program that will pay for the travel for players' families to the Final Four in men's and women's basketball. An immediate exemption was also voted in to allow players' families from Oregon and Ohio State's football teams to travel to next Monday's national champiionship in football, in Arlington, Texas.
The timing of the announcement raised an obvious question: If the NCAA could find an interpretation so quickly to make this happen, why can't more issues be solved faster?

Johnson received 97.3 percent of the vote, with Martinez not far behind at 91.1. The record-high percentage is 98.84, which Tom Seaver received in 1992. Smoltz got 82.9 percent while Biggio grabbed 82.7 percent in his third try. Smoltz, Johnson and Martinez are all first-ballot Hall of Famers.

Here's a clip with the record-tying and record-breaking strikeouts, moving him past Hall of Famer Phil Niekro. (Mr. Ed says: Y'all get this link for no other reason than Smoltz is/was my favorite player!)
The Spurs lead by 18 in the first half over the Spurs. They blew it, went down by ten, tied it, eventually took the lead with eight seconds remaining. The Spurs blew a lot of free throws down the stretch, but they would get fouled, hit two, and that would be that. Right?
Today was the highly anticipated and (in the words of our tipster) "always heated" battle between North Whidbey Middle School and Oak Harbor Middle School in Oak Harbor, Washington. But despite the high stakes of the matchup, one of the referees spent a minute chilling on his phone!
