The Jayhawks came out on fire today, opening up a 13-4 lead to begin the game. The Rebels would close the margin to 15-12, but then KU went on another run to make it 21-12. UNLV would come back yet again and took a 33-29 lead into halftime.
KU scored the first six points of the second half and the game would be nip and tuck until about 10 minutes remaining, when the Jayhawks took a 56-51 lead on a Frank Mason three-pointer at the 9:57 mark. From that point, Kansas would slowly stretch its lead to the final 76-61 margin.
Frank Mason led the Jayhawks in scoring with 18 on 8/14 shooting (1/3 from 3-pt) while also contributing 7 assists. Perry Ellis and Wayne Selden each added 16 more points of their own.
As a team, KU outrebounded the Rebels by a 45-31 margin. Kelly Oubre led the way with 10 boards, while Traylor and Ellis each added nine more.
KU shot 8/19 from 3-pt while UNLV went 7/23. KU was 8/14 from the free throw line while UNLV was 6/9.
Up next for the Jayhawks, KU will begin the attempt to extend their championship streak in Big 12 conference play. KU will face Baylor in Waco on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
