Play of the year: The Jayhawks didn’t deliver many wins this season, but they did deliver the play of the year on Nov. 15 against TCU. Midway through the third quarter, Kansas wide receiver Nigel King hauled in a tipped pass with a one-handed acrobatic grab, then raced 78 yards down the sideline to give the Jayhawks a 27-17 lead. The play nearly catapulted Kansas to the upset of the college football season, but TCU rallied to survive King and the Jayhawks, 34-30.

Ellis is many things -- smart, thoughtful, tough, resilient -- but a natural rim protector, he ain't. Big 34 is a finesse guy being asked to take on more of an enforcer's role, whether by design or by default. And it just doesn't fit, doesn't feel right. Kid's pressing. The strain shows.
Kansas University junior forward Hunter Mickelson meets with media members and discusses what it's like to have to perform in practice to earn game minutes, as well as the differences between playing at KU and his former school, Arkansas.

Patterson's diplomatic handling of TCU going from No. 3 to No. 6 in a one-week span was a stark contrast to Baylor coach Art Briles, who even complained that the playoff committee needs more Texans. The lack of sour grapes by Patterson differed from his own past.

I knew somebody would rank Arizona too high because they either missed the Wildcats' loss late Sunday at Oregon State or just couldn't come to grips with the idea of dropping a national brand that, on paper, still projects as great. Happens all the time.
