A brief look at how the Big 12 fared in basketball over the past week.

Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

Another sub-par week for the Big 12 as Kansas and Texas both fall. Plus, Texas Tech appears to be coming back to reality as far as their record goes and K-State lost hilariously. Here’s how each team fared as the last full week of non-conference games came to a close.

Baylor Bears, Record: 10-1 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 32
Results:
Baylor 70, Southern 66

Although it wasn’t impressive, the Bears got the win against Southern. They close out the non-con with a game against Norfolk State.

Good wins: Texas A&M (RPI: 45)

Good Losses: Illinois (Current RPI: 56)

Bad Losses: None

Iowa State Cyclones, Record: 9-1 overall, 0-0 this week, RPI: 33
Results:
No Games Played

Games against Mississippi Valley State and South Carolina remain for the Cyclones before they bust into conference action against OSU on January 6.

Good wins: Arkansas (RPI: 22), Alabama (RPI: 34)

Good Losses: Maryland (RPI: 27)

Bad Losses: None

Kansas State Wildcats, Record: 7-5 overall, 0-1 this week, RPI: 168
Results:
Texas Southern 58, K-State 56

If you haven’t
seen it, the sequence to end the game against Texas Southern is one of the most comic-tragic endings in the history of college basketball.

Good wins: Texas A&M (RPI: 56)

Good Losses: Arizona (RPI: 11), Potentially Pittsburgh (RPI: 75), Potentially Tennessee (RPI: 92)

Bad Losses: Texas Southern (RPI: 87)

Oklahoma Sooners, Record: 8-3 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 40
Results:
Oklahoma 85, Weber State 51

Sure it was just Weber State, but you have to feel that OU wanted a win against anyone after last week’s loss to Washington.

Good wins: Butler (RPI: 53), Potentially UCLA (RPI: 120)

Good Losses: Wisconsin (RPI: 8), Washington (RPI: 41), Potentially Creighton (RPI: 113)

Bad Losses: Potentially Creighton (RPI: 113)

Oklahoma State Cowboys, Record: 8-2 overall, 0-0 this week, RPI: 46
Results:
No Games Played

A win next week against Missouri would be a welcome sight for the Cowboys after their recent loss to Maryland.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: Maryland (RPI: 27)

Bad Losses: South Carolina (RPI: 82)

TCU Horned Frogs, Record: 12-0 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 80
Results:
TCU 80, Grambling State 39

The newly ranked Horned Frogs had no problems with Grambling. It gets a little more difficult for TCU when the conference season starts on January 3 against West Virginia.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: None

Bad Losses: None

Texas Longhorns, Record: 10-2 overall, 0-1 this week, RPI: 21
Results:
Stanford 74, Texas 71

Stanford. Where have I seen this before?

Good wins: Potentially UConn (RPI: 85)

Good Losses: Kentucky (RPI: 1), Standford (RPI: 42)

Bad Losses: None

Texas Tech Red Raiders, Record: 9-3 overall, 0-2 this week, RPI: 132
Results:
Loyola-Chicago 62, Tech 44
Houston 82, Tech 69

Not a good week for the Red Raiders as they drop both of their games in Las Vegas over the holidays. It’s going to be tough for these guys to win in conference.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: LSU (RPI: 20)

Bad Losses: None

West Virginia Mountaineers, Record: 11-1 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 13
Results:
WVU 77, Wofford 44

Juwan Staten continues to impress. He is averaging 15.9 points per game on the season so far.

Good wins: NC State (RPI: 49), Potentially UConn (Current RPI: 85)

Good Losses: LSU (RPI: 20)

Bad Losses: None
