Also, I haven't received any packages in the mail for my birthday yet (which is tomorrow). Be sure to send them separate from my Christmas presents - it sucks getting #birthdayslashchristmas presents.

From Baltimore to Chicago to a dozen places in Texas and several stops in between, Beaty, Bowen and Mitchell used the final week of the open recruiting period to address some of the team’s most important needs through the junior-college ranks. The result of little sleep and even less family time was a haul that Beaty said was "a little bit better" than he expected, and, again, he credited Bowen and Mitchell for holding the group together while Kansas operated without a full-time head coach.
Kansas C Joe Gibson: The redshirt freshman took over starting center duties midway through the season and brought solidarity to the Jayhawks' interior line. Making QB Michael Cummings the starter and Eric Kiesau the playcaller were among the noted changes that paid off during Clint Bowen’s time as interim coach but Gibson’s role was just as important.
No. 10/10 Kansas (8-1) returns home to host Lafayette (7-2) out of the Patriot League Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. (Central) on Jayhawk IMG TV/ESPN Full Court/ESPN3.
All 15 players were joined by head coach Bill Self, his coaching staff, student managers, family members and friends as they assembled at a local Wal-Mart to find "Wish List" gifts for 15 total families.
During her four years as a Jayhawk (1997-2001), Johnson made her way into the record books. Not only is she a member of the 1,000-point club, but she also ranks fifth on KU's all-time rebounding list with 846 boards. The California native was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2000 and 2001.

Though out of the playoff, the Big 12 is hardly devoid of high-profile matchups against name teams this bowl season. And a successful bowl record would cement national perception of the strength and depth of the Big 12 while setting the conference up for a run at the playoff next season. (Mr. Ed says: I'm not sure I believe this. I just can't see how this year's bowl season affects next year's playoff in the slightest.)
The athletic directors at Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake announced Wednesday that the Big Four Classic will be held in Iowa's capital of Des Moines for two more years.

''It still hasn't hit me yet just because we haven't gotten there yet. We haven't been to downtown Detroit, still practicing and stuff like that,'' Turzilli said. ''But again, just having that extra month to practice - if I was at my other school, again, I'd be done. Just grateful to have the opportunity.''

If only Jay Cutler's team would help Jay Cutler on the field.
All together, Smoltz went 213-155 with 154 saves in 3,473 career innings. He finished his career with a 3.33 ERA (125 ERA+), a 1.18 WHIP and a 3.05 K/BB ratio. Smoltz ranks 16th all-time in strikeouts (3,084), 39th all-time in WAR (66.5) and 74th all-time in innings. Smoltz is the only player in MLB history with 200-plus wins and 150-plus saves. (Dennis Eckersley had 197 wins and 390 saves.)
(Mr. Ed says: John Smoltz was my favorite player as a kid, in high school, in college, and as a young adult. I loved watching this guy pitch. If anyone needs gift ideas, how about a Smoltz jersey or autographed baseball!)
"Pretty soon they'll be in our bench area helping out with the play calls," he joked on Wednesday. "I don't think there's much to it. There's a lot of terminology. But I am kind of surprised it showed up on the TV screen. … I wouldn't put it on if I was ESPN." That said, Payton doesn't think there's much an opponent can do with the information.

Last week, we wrote about the accuracy of ESPN's fantasy football projections and found that, well, they're not perfect. Fortunately, ESPN isn't the only prognosticator in town. With championships starting this week, it seemed like a good idea to compare the accuracy of these seven sources in order to determine which is best to trust before setting your lineup.
It's understandable if you think we're the bad guys right now. But there are real bad guys involved in this, and it's not good for any of us to let them win. Let's show that movie. It will be fun. (Unless the movie sucks.)

Ah, the old "pass up an open layup for a turnaround jumper" move. That one usually works!
