New, 3 comments

A brief look at how the Big 12 fared in basketball over the past week.

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

KU grabbed the marquee wins of the week with its victories over Georgetown and Utah, but that tends to happen when no one else in the conference plays anyone of note.

Baylor Bears, Record: 8-1 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 33
Results:
Baylor 77, Texas A&M 63

Jonathan Motley poured in 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory over the Aggies.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: Potentially Illinois (Current RPI: 53)

Bad Losses: None

Iowa State Cyclones, Record: 8-1 overall, 3-0 this week, RPI: 14
Results:
Iowa State 73, UMKC 56
Iowa State 90, Iowa 75

Iowa State 88, Southern 78

It didn’t seem to matter that Bryce Dejean-Jones was suspended for the Iowa game. Five other Cyclones scored in double figures as Fred Hoiberg’s guys continued to roll. One problem for this team could be depth. Only seven guys saw action in the win against the Hawkeyes.

Good wins: Arkansas (RPI: 14), Alabama (RPI: 20)

Good Losses: Maryland (Current RPI: 30)

Bad Losses: None

Kansas State Wildcats, Record: 6-4 overall, 2-0 this week, RPI: 162
Results:
K-State 50, Bradley 47
K-State 73 , Savannah State 53

At this point, K-State doesn’t care who they have to beat to get wins. So far, the best win for the Wildcats game against Purdue whose RPI is 119.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: Arizona (RPI: 6)

Bad Losses: Tennessee (RPI: 154), Long Beach State (RPI: 72)

Oklahoma Sooners, Record: 6-2 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 34
Results:
Oklahoma 87, Tulsa 68

TaShawn Thomas and Isaiah Cousins both scored over 20 points in the win over Tulsa with the latter canning five three pointers on eight attempts. The Sooners’ last test of the non-con comes this Saturday at Washington.

Good wins: Butler (RPI: 30), Potentially UCLA (Current RPI: 137)

Good Losses: Wisconsin (RPI:11), Potentially Creighton (Current RPI: 153)

Bad Losses: None

Oklahoma State Cowboys, Record: 7-1 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 57
Results:
OSU 73, Memphis 55

After that embarrassing loss to South Carolina, the Cowboys bounced back my trouncing the hapless Tigers. OSU may have the hardest non-con left in the conference. I take that back. One of their games is against Missouri.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: None

Bad Losses: South Carolina (RPI: 65)

TCU Horned Frogs, Record: 10-0 overall, 2-0 this week, RPI: 81
Results:
TCU 80, Furman 69
TCU 68, McNeese State 50

TCU beat another couple of patsies this week. It’s very possible that they go into Big 12 conference play at 13-0 and finish the season with a record below .500.

Good wins: Potentially Mississippi State (Current RPI: 75)

God Losses: None

Bad Losses: None

Texas Longhorns, Record: 8-1 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 8
Results:
Texas 59, Texas State 27

Texas just might be the team to beat in the Big 12. It was another convincing win for the Longhorns and they don’t play another team in the RPI top 30 until the new year when they face Oklahoma.

Good wins: UConn (RPI: 61), Potentially Iowa (Current RPI: 101),

Good Losses: Kentucky (RPI: 1)

Bad Losses: None

Texas Tech Red Raiders, Record: 6-1 overall, 2-0 this week, RPI: 64
Results:
Tech 73, Fresno State 56
Tech 79, Prairie View 51

You’ve got to win the games that are scheduled and the Red Raiders are doing just that. It doesn’t get much more difficult as the next four opponents are South Carolina State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Loyola of Chicago, and North Texas.

Good wins: None

Good Losses: Potentially LSU (Current RPI: 18)

Bad Losses: Potentially

West Virginia Mountaineers, Record: 9-1 overall, 1-0 this week, RPI: 31
Results:
WVU 69, Marshall 66

Ah, the battle for supremacy in the state of West Virginia.

Good wins: UConn (Current RPI: 61)

Good Losses: Potentially LSU (Current RPI: 18)

Bad Losses:
