Big XII Conference Recap- Week 10

Kansas got hammered by Baylor yesterday, and if you need more insight into that contest, RCT has you covered. As for the rest of the Big XII, here’s a quick recap of all the games.

Justin K. Aller

#7 TCU 31, #20 West Virginia 30

This was always going to be the game of the week and it lived up to its billing. TCU was down by 13 on two separate occasions and nine points in the fourth quarter, but great teams find a way to win, and TCU did just that. Jaden Oberkrom nailed a 37 yard field goal as time expired keeping the Horned Frogs in the mix for a conference championship. Strangely, this was TCU’s first game outside the state of Texas, but they return back home in the Big 12 game of the year when K-State comes to Fort Worth next weekend. West Virginia travels to Texas.

#18 Oklahoma 58, Iowa State 14

Oklahoma had 751 totals yards including 510 on the ground and they rolled the Cyclones from the start. Running backs Trevor Knight and Alex Ross were the story for the Sooners as the former ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns while the latter racked up 144 yards and averaged 11.1 yards per carry. ISU was never in this one, down by 21 after one quarter and 35-7 at the half. Oklahoma host Baylor in a monster matchup next weekend while Iowa State travels to Lawrence to battle Kansas is a game to determine the last place team in the conference.

#9 Kansas State 48, Oklahoma State 14

K-State keeps rolling, this time in dominant fashion over the reeling Cowboys. QB Jake Waters was steady and Curry Sexton and Tyler Lockett led the way combining for 253 yards receiving and two scores. Oklahoma State turned it over three times and seemed deflated after a Morgan Burns kickoff return evened things up for the Wildcats in the first quarter. After that, the Cowboys were chasing and the Wildcats did what the Wildcats do. They shut down the Cowboys offensive attack and protected the ball. K-State plays a huge game that could determine the conference champion when they travel to TCU next weekend. Oklahoma State tries to get back on track in two weeks against Texas.

Texas 34, Texas Tech 13

Remember when a Texas Tech/Texas showdown meant something? Well, this one didn’t and Texas rolled the Red Raiders in Lubbock. Tyrone Swoopes appears to be making strides as a QB, and that’s good news for the Longhorns who are looking to build for next year. Texas Tech is a trainwreck, plain and simple. They’re lucky KU and Iowa State are in this league. Texas hosts West Virginia next week while Tech has the week off before a difficult showdown with the Sooners.
