Each Thursday, we’ll bring you some key match-ups from around the country, so you can plan your weekend accordingly.
#6 Texas A&M at #12 Mississippi State
It looks like the state of Mississippi is the place to be this weekend. The Aggies of Texas A&M come into Starksville riding high after beating Arkansas on the weekend. The Bulldogs are on a similar high after downing LSU over the weekend. Chronologically, this is the first of the monster games in the SEC this weekend. It starts at 11:00 AM CT on ESPN.
#3 Alabama at #11 Ole Miss
SEC football has been in full swing all season long, each week has featured a big game and this week is the biggest yet. Alabama goes to Ole Miss this weekend and that stadium should be rocking. Game time is 2:30 CT and it’s on CBS.
#15 LSU at #5 Auburn
Two more SEC powers go at it at Auburn this weekend. As much as I love the top of the Big 12 and especially the round-robin that is the modern Big 12, is there more of a murderer’s row to go through than the schedule that SEC West teams face? This game starts at 6:00 CT on ESPN.
#4 Oklahoma at #25 TCU
Oklahoma looks to be the best team in the Big 12, rolling over competition all season. Bob Stoops has a week off to prepare for TCU after the Sooners’ win over West Virginia two weeks ago. TCU technically didn’t have an off week, but they did play SMU which is as close as you can get to having one. Can TCU make a statement and reinsert themselves into the conversation as a football powerhouse? Game time is 2:30 on Fox.
#14 Stanford at #9 Notre Dame
This is one of three more games where Notre Dame can make a case to be included in the college football post season (Florida State and USC are the others). We’ll get to see what the Irish are made of and they’ll get a stiff test from Stanford. The Cardinal are probably still smarting from their week two loss to USC. The drama unfolds at 2:30 CT on NBC.
#19 Nebraska at #10 Michigan State
Hey, it’s two of the competent teams in the Big 10, so of course ABC makes this it’s primetime showcase! There are 77 important games starting at 2:30 that deserve prime time exposure, but instead, this game gets slotted to 7:00 CT on ABC.
#7 Baylor at Texas
Both of these teams are 1-0 in conference, but that’s where the similarities end. Can Texas, a team that struggled with KU’s defense, score against Baylor? Probably, but that’s the least of the problems facing the Longhorns. Stopping Baylor’s high-powered offense will be the key. Good luck, Texas! The game is on ABC at 2:30 CT.
