Kansas Basketball: Jerrance Howard Set to Replace Joe Dooley?

Bill Self appears ready to hire Jerrance Howard as his replacement for the recently departed Joe Dooley.

Jason King from ESPN is reporting that Jerrance Howard is set to join the Kansas Jayhawk coaching staff as an assistant coach under his former head coach Bill Self. Howard is just 33 years old and played under Self during his collegiate career at the University of Illinois.

King reports that the deal could be announced as soon as Thursday. Howard's most recent stint was spent under Larry Brown at SMU after having previously coached with Bruce Weber at Illinois and under Billy Gillespie at both Texas A&M and Kentucky.

Howard is viewed as a solid young up and coming recruiter with good connections in the Chicago area. Bringing Howard and Norm Roberts to Lawrence in back to back offseason's should only help continue the recent success that Bill Self has had on the recruiting trail. When you include the fact that Kurtis Townsend was the man behind the Andrew Wiggins recruitment, Kansas appears to be in very good hands when it comes to bringing talent into Lawrence.

This would be a great hire for Self, round out the staff very nicely and should ensure that Bill Self will continue to have the players in the program that can develop into NBA caliber players.
