Florida vs. Kansas: Gators Closer to Full Strength Heading into Matchup with Jayhawks

Al Messerschmidt

Tonight Kansas tips off against the nationally ranked Florida Gators on the road in Gainesville.  Kansas is coming off of a last second loss to Colorado, but more importantly Kansas is fighting to regain some sort of form to their game.  Since their Thanksgiving trip to the Bahamas, this young Kansas team has been a bit lost.  After a big early season win against Duke, the Jayhawks have struggled defensively and the outside shooting woes have led to a pretty simple blueprint for teams looking to slow the Jayhawks.

Putting the Kansas struggles aside, Florida is bringing back a few key pieces as the two teams both look to develop a bit of an identity early in the season.  For Florida that help comes in the form of Scottie Wilbekin and Kasey Hill who will both return to the court after time on the sidelines.  Florida is 6-2 on the season, the same as Kansas and both guards will provide a nice boost to the Gators and present a bigger challenge for the Jayhawks.

Kansas knew heading into the season that they would play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country.  Tonight they look to get back on track against Florida, then the focus turns to another tough matchup Saturday against New Mexico.  At the end of the day you hope this helps prepare this team come January and even more importantly in March.  There is plenty to be concerned about, but it's early and there is plenty of basketball to be played. Let the early season tests continue.
