Late Monday morning Bill Self announced the hiring of Norm Roberts to the Kansas basketball staff as a replacement to Danny Manning. The initial report comes via KUSports.com where Bill Self commented on the hire.
"I'm thrilled, we were together for nine years. My family helped raise his kids. His family has helped raise mine. We're close. Certainly we hate to see Danny go, but Norm coming back will be a big bonus to our program."
Roberts spent time with Self during his tenure at Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Illinois and then one year at Kansas before taking over at St. John's. Roberts spent the last year in Florida with a team that made a successful Elite Eight run in the NCAA Tournament under Billy Donovan.
Roberts has always been known as a strong recruiter for Self and the success of those various programs during the time Roberts has been involved speaks for itself. With the departure of Manning Kansas needed a strong hire, this one couldn't have been a better fit.
