For 25 minutes the Kansas women's basketball team looked like it would be joining their male counterparts in the Elite Eight. The Jayhawks used a strong defensive performance to put themselves up five at half and extend that lead early in the second half as they faced off against 2nd seeded Tennessee.
Unfortunately it didn't prove sustainable. The Lady Vols slowly got into a groove offensively, picked up the defensive intensity and dominated the glass throughout the second half. It proved to be too much for 11th seeded Kansas who squeaked into this tournament and then made an impressive little run to the Sweet Sixteen in Des Moines.
Kansas loses by a final score of 84 to 73. The loss ends the Jayhawks season and Kansas finishes 21-13 overall. Angel Goodrich once again led the Jayhawks and the junior point guard will return next season as as senior after having put together a great tournament performance through three games.
Kansas will head into next season with some very positive momentum for the program and they'll return almost everyone who helped contribute to this run along with their leading scorer, Carolyn Davis, who of course has been out since early February with a torn ACL.
