JaKarr Sampson is visiting Kansas, per Scout. (note: the original tweet said this weekend. The correct weekend is the weekend of the 25th when we host Missouri). Sampson originally committed to St. Johns for the 2011-12 season but was ruled academically ineligible and re-opened his recruitment for the 2012 season.
Sampson is a 6'8" forward who is long and skilled. He's not very filled out so his back to the basket game is a bit limited, but he has an explosive first step and has reportedly improved his ball handling an incredible amount over the fall/winter.
Sampson is currently playing at Brewster Prep, the same school that produced Thomas Robinson and Naadir Tharpe for the Jayhawks. Kansas all of a sudden has a glut of big men for next year with Withey returning and Perry Ellis, Zach Peters and Landen Lucas all set to join, but Sampson would be a tremendous get for Bill Self. With the type of ball skills he has and the coaching and strength training he'll receive at Kansas he would be a huge get for the Jayhawks.
He was 17th ranked forward and 51st ranked player overall in 2011 according to Rivals. Other than Kansas he has Pitt, Providence, Louisville, Baylor, Miami and, yes, St. Johns still in the mix.
