Sunday Kansas Football Coaching Search Open Thread

With the coaching search really starting to heat up I thought it would be nice to have a place where we could all share any rumours we have heard or whom our favorites are, whom we want to stay away from, etc. A couple links to whet your appetite:

First, ESPN's Joe Schad says that Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has emerged in both the Kansas and North Carolina jobs. Mike Jurecki (out of Phoenix, so not sure how he'd know) also said that Kansas is "closing in on" Malzahn.

Obviously Malzahn helped lead Auburn to the national championship last year behind that awesome offense, but can he do it without a $180,000 quarterback? He is one of the better recruiters around, however, and I have to imagine that would carry over to Kansas.

Elsewhere, Rebel Grove reports that Ole Miss is going to hire Arkansas State head man Hugh Freeze (of The Blind Side fame). That's one less job for Larry Fedora.

Another job that was rumored to be looking for Fedora, and probably still is, is Arizona State. But the school is also hot and heavy after SMU coach June Jones.

The last, and maybe biggest, hurdle to getting Fedora is the A&M job. There still is the CBS Houston report out there that Kevin Sumlin is going to take the job, though Sumlin has denied it.

If anything big happens I'll try to have it up ASAP. Other than that, speculate away!
