Kansas Basketball 50 in 50, No. 10: Ioannis Papapetrou Announcement Open Thread

50 in 50 is a feature here at RCT counting down until the Jayhawks kick off the 2011 basketball season on November first. Got an idea for something you'd like to see featured here? tweet @rockchalktalk or @fetch9 or email me at fetch9 at gmail dot com.

Today recruit Ioannis Papapetrou will be announcing his college choice. He visited KU for the Legends of the Phog game and visited Texas last week for late night. The fact that he canceled his other visits after his UT visit seems like a bad omen, but I have a pretty poor track record in terms of predicting commitments so who knows.

As for Papapetrou's abilities, he's a three star forward from Florida (originally Greece, hence the name), who also attended the same high school as Sasha Kaun. He's a 6'7" small forward, but he rarely ventures into the lane. He's a good spot up shooter and passer who averaged just over 11 PPG at the 2010 U-16 European Championships.

I have always had a thing for tall guys who can drain threes, but we shouldn't be too bothered if Papapetrou chooses Texas. I have serious reservations as to whether he can defend in the Big 12 (based on what I have read about him anyways. Any video I have seen has been all on offense), and while recruiting rankings are an inexact science, guys who are unranked usually don't end up providing a ton. With all the playing time available he would be a nice luxury to have as a guy who can be a three point threat, but there are much higher priorities to go after.

Then again, I've always wanted to nickname a guy "The Greek."
