Over the past year we've had quite a few conversations with a pair of players from Blue Springs about their college futures. First there was Keeston Terry, now signed to be a Jayhawk. Then there was Darrian Miller a talented running back in the 2011 class who holds a Kansas offer. Most recently though we had a chance to catch up with Blue Springs cornerback for the 2011 class, Bernard Thomas.
Now in the past Darrian Miller has made no secret that he would like to continue his college playing days with Thomas. With that in mind both made the trip to Kansas' junior day and now three days later Thomas is expecting to get that offer today from Coach Gill personally.
So what are Thomas' thoughts on Kansas, his plans for recruiting and the likelihood that Terry, Miller and Thomas could soon be playing on the same team again? Bernard Thomas checks in with Rock Chalk Talk.
Denver
Bernard, thanks for your time, first off bring us up to speed on your recruitment with Kansas. How junior day went? and how the offer came about?
Bernard
Basically the junior day was great. I can definitely see myself, Darrian and Keeston all playing there. Everything about the facilities were top notch and the coaches were pretty legit too. I hadn't even been talking to them at all before the junior day, but I had brought my film and talked to the coaches while I was there. Coach Mitchell told me to call on Tuesday and I did and he said everyone loved the film and for me to call tomorrow for the official offer.
Denver
So this was Coach Mitchell and tomorrow you are calling Coach Gill?
Bernard
Right, he said everyone else has seen the tape and he just has to give the ok for the offer like everyone else has.
Denver
Makes sense. Now, you mention you could see yourself, Darrian and Keeston all playing together at Kansas. Is playing together something you guys have wanted to do?
Bernard
Well Darrian and I are going to the same school regardless, Keeston's just a good bonus with Kansas.
Denver
I know it's early, but where do you think Kansas' chances stand in terms of landing both you and Darrian?
Bernard
Well it's a good distance from home. We both love are position coaches. Our coach has gone there and said it's a great University and Keeston's goingtoo. It has some of the most die hard fans I've ever seen and there program is on its way to the top. So I would say the chance is pretty good right no
Denver
Very good to hear. So how does the opportunity to play for a nearby school play into your decision?
Bernard
Honestly I dont care personally, but it would be nice for my family to see me play in person.
Denver
Fair enough. What's next for you in terms of recruiting and do you have any sort of a timeline for making a decision.
Bernard
Well this weekend me and Darrian are going to Oklahoma State, but I'm going to wait things out, I'm not planning on committing anytime soon.
Denver
Definitely good to see some other places. In terms of making your decision what are some of the things you are going to be looking for in a college choice and what do you see playing the biggest factor?
Bernard
Academics and the depth chart for sure.
Denver
So far you've visited KU and MU is that correct?
Bernard
And Arkansas for junior day. Plus I went to Colorado and OU for unofficials.
Denver
What stands out about Kansas and the staff based on what you've seen from other schools?
Bernard
They make you feel at home and talk promising about my future.
Denver
Sounds good, well thanks for your time tonight and keep us posted on things as they progress.
Bernard
Anytime and will do.
