Looming large in the stands of Allen Fieldhouse this weekend was one Kansas junior day visitor that more than fills a seat.  Bishop Miege's Phil Ford stands 6'5" and checks in at over 350 pounds.  Miege is of course coached by former Chiefs offensive lineman Tim Grunhard.  One would assume that Phil has received some pretty solid coaching and it goes without saying that Miege is a Kansas City school that Kansas could benefit a great deal from in terms of recruiting.

After the game, Phil was more than a little excited to talk about his trip and I was fortunate enough to grab a few minutes of his time on the trip home from Lawrence to talk about his experience.

As always we'll be checking in with other players throughout the day and week but Big Phil Ford kicks off the post junior day part II coverage here at Rock Chalk Talk.

Update: Rob Standard on his visit, "KU's in my Top 3 as of now."

Denver

OK Phil, first off thanks for your time.  I'm glad you are so excited about your visit, why don't you talk about the visit. What you did? Who you met with on the staff? Any players, other recruits? and how you felt about Kansas in general?

Phil

Well first off we talked and listened to the coaches about the school and the football program.   I actually had a chance to meet all the coaches on the staff and they were really nice, very cool and they all seemed real about football and life.  I just really felt like I bonded well with them all. As a whole I just really liked it all.

I also really liked the fan base, and the way they treated us down there.   Seeing all the cool things about the school, the weight room and how much the fans respect you.

Denver

That's great to hear.  Any news on an offer or the next steps for you in terms of recruiting and Kansas?

Phil

Yeah, I gave them my film from this season again and they're looking at that still.  They said they are really interested in me and Coach Gill really likes me and said an offer should be coming soon.

Denver

Think Kansas is somewhere you could see yourself?

Phil

Yeah I really do. I'm really going to think about going there for school, its a good school.  It was really cool and I felt like I was at home!  I also felt good about the coaches because I don't think they put much pressure on you, they just really treated us good.

Denver

What about your teammates that went with you, any idea how things went for them?

Phil

They liked it a lot! My boy Shane Ray got offered, and Max Shortell was there as well.  They definitely both liked it a lot too.

Denver

What's next for you in terms of your recruitment?

Phil

I think we're going to go down to Oklahoma State's junior day or one other to take a look.  After that I'm not sure just yet what my plan is.

Denver

It's still very early.

Phil

Yes it is.

Denver

Well, you'll have to keep us posted on how things are going and when that Kansas offer comes your way.  Thanks again.

Phil

Sounds good, thanks.
