Of the twelve recruits Kansas had recieved commitments from heading into the weekend a grand total of zero were at a fairly key position.  The offensive line for the Jayhawks is fairly young and deep right now, but that doesn't mean there is time to get complacent.  As the big men up front go, so goes the team in many cases. With that in mind Kansas needed to fill at least a couple of scholarships with offensive lineman this year.

This weekend Kansas hosted it's first of a few potential offensive line signees in Virginia product Chad Kolumber.  Kolumber talked about Kansas with RCT prior to his visit and now with that visit complete, Kolumber is a Jayhawk and gave us a few minutes to talk about his trip, his commitment and his football playing future.

So Chad, how'd it go?

Chad Kolumber

Great, gave my verbal commitment yesterday.

Denver

Great news, well why don't you give us a rundown of your weekend to start things off.

Chad Kolumber

Friday we got in, had a group meeting and met the staff.  Then we took a tour of the football facilities, had dinner and then I went out with my host.

Saturday we had breakfast then went to the stadium to meet some academic people.  Then we went to the KU v. TTech game which was amazing...I love the KU chant at the end of the game.

Afterwards we met more of the academic staff, the tutors and that program.  Then we went back to our hotel for a little bit and went to dinner.  After dinner I headed out with my host again.

Oh, I gave my verbal just before the basketball game

Today we woke up, had breakfast, met with Coach Gill and then headed to the airport.  That was the weekend.

Denver

Who hosted you for the weekend and were there any players or other recruits you had a chance to get to know a little bit?

Chad Kolumber

My host was Tanner Hawkinson and there were 9 kids on the official and a few of them were committed already.

Tanner's roommate also had a recruit who was a tight end and his name was Trent(Smiley).  We spent a good amount of time together and we got along great so I was happy about that.

Denver

As far as the staff, did you have a chance to meet everyone and what were your thoughts on that?

Chad Kolumber

I did.  I really liked the new staff, they were very open to everything I asked and talked about. They seem to be willing to help everyone succeed on and off the field so I was happy about that.

Denver

Did you talk at all about where they see you fitting in the program at this point?

Chad Kolumber

I did a little bit. They obviously see me as being able to help the program succeed but at the moment they are still getting to know everyone already there and the ability of the team as it stands.  Basically, they said they would have a better idea about everything later on down the road after they've had a chance to do that.

Denver

Makes sense. What was it that made you want to commit to Kansas this weekend?

Chad Kolumber

Part of it was the coaches and knowing them from Buffalo.  Also the players that I met and was hanging out with were very friendly and treated me like I was already a teammate before I committed so I felt welcome and I was happy about that.  That had a huge play in my decision.

Denver

Very good to hear. Well welcome aboard, glad the weekend was a success for you and here's to hearing the Rock Chalk Chant many times during your football career.

Chad Kolumber

Thanks buddy I'm looking forward to it.
