Kansas broke its five game losing streak to the Wichita State Shockers this evening at Hoglund Field.  The game was played in arctic conditions.  The temperature was in the high 20’s at first pitch.

Kansas freshman starter Lee Ridenhour (left) was outstanding.  He went eight shutout innings, giving up only three hits and a walk.  Paul Smyth pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game.  Robby Price broke out of his season long slump by collecting two doubles and homerun along with four RBIs.

KU defended its house again.  The Jayhawks finish their first home-stand of 2009 with a 7-0 record at the Hog.

Kansas hits the road this weekend for five tough games.  The Jayhawks will be at #7 Arizona State (11-2) Friday through Sunday and then travel to San Diego State (7-6) for games on Tuesday and Wednesday.  KU will provide free webcasts for all games on this road trip.

Kansas improves to 9-3 on the year, Wichita State falls to 6-6.
