Recruit Update: Jeremiah Edwards

Earlier in the season RCT interviewed Kansas defensive tackle recruit Jeremiah Edwards.  At the time he was looking very much forward to becoming a Jayhawk and heading to Lawrence.  Obviously a lot has changed since that conversation but I had a moment to catch up with Edwards this weekend and things appear to be up in the air at this point.

While Jeremiah remains committed to Kansas he definitely is keeping his options open.  "I'm still with KU," said Edwards, "but I'm looking at Texas Tech now too."

Edwards said he needed to see how things shake out with the current coaching vacancy with the Jayhawks before he makes his final decision.  "If it's a good coach that comes in and especially one that I already know and have a relationship with then I'll stay with Kansas."

Edwards specifically mentioned both Kevin Sumlin from Houston and Brent Venebles from Oklahoma as coaches he has a standing relationship with that had been floated around in connection with the Kansas job.  Whether either of those are real candidates remains to be seen but it does appear Kansas has the opportunity to retain Edwards as part of the 2010 class.

Edwards also said that if Coach Beaty remains on staff at Kansas there is a very good chance he remains a part of the 2010 Jayhawk class.
