While our football recruiting class is already loaded, adding a 7th member today in DT Zach Stadther, our 2008 hoops class was barren. That is, before today when we received a committment from 6'5" G Travis Releford. He is a member of the now Jayhawk-infested Kansas City AAU team Pump-N-Run, which also has featured soon-to-be Jayhawks Tyrell Reed and Connor Teahan, both members of the Class of 2007. According to Rivals he is the 66th best player in the class including the 14th best shooting guard of the 2008 class. He reminds me of Rush with his Kansas City upbringing (albeit on the different side of the state line) and his body type (6'5" 190) being similar to Brandon. With Rush undoubtedly leaving for the NBA after this upcoming season, Releford figures to pick up plenty of those minutes. Self continues to recruit combo guards, and while Releford doesn't neccessarily have the ball handling skills to play the point it is at least a possibility.
Good signing, this class should be a loaded one for our sakes considering we are losing: Brandon, RR, Sasha, DJack and possibly DA, Super and SC. Once the first four are departed it isn't likely that DA, Super and SC all leave as whoever stays will be the star of the team. More on future lineups on another day, for now I am glad Self is finally starting to pick up the pace compared to Mangino and Co.
