Sunday's KU vs KSU game, New Starting Time

Due to rain KU has pushed the starting time of the third and final game vs. Kansas State back to 3PM.

Game canceled at 2PM. It will not be made up.

Kansas State took the first two games of the series and so the Jayhawks need a victory today to salvage the short end of the split.

On Friday night in Manhattan Andy Marks pitched the game of his life.  Through seven innings he only gave up a single hit and four walks.  Coach Price turned the game over to Paul Smyth to start the eighth inning with KU leading 1-0.  Smyth suffered through one of his off days, giving up two runs in the inning.  The Jayhawks were unable to rally against the K-State closer, Daniel Edwards, and took a very tough loss.  Edwards is one of the best closers in the NCAA, with an ERA under one and 11 saves.  Here is the KU recap and boxscore.

Saturday's game at Hoglund was more of an offensive affair.  The Wildcats built a 4-0 lead before KU even was able to bat in the bottom of the first inning, and this early cushion held up.  KU did rally and at one point trailed only 5-4, but they could never fully overcome the slow start and fell by a final score of 7-4.  KU recap and boxscore.

The two losses drop KU to 8-15 in Big-12 play and back into the conference cellar.
