KU and OSU are playing a three game series this weekend at Hoglund Park. I had hoped to prepare a series preview with some information about the powerful OSU squad but I am afraid writing about the team has had to take a second seat to more pressing business in real life.
In brief, OSU is a hell of a good team featuring a real killers row when they are the plate.
Tyler Mach: 95 at bats, .442/.504/.758, 6 HR, 35 RBI. Will go early in the MLB draft.
Corey Brown: 84 at bats, .393/.530/.929, 10 HR, 35 RBI.
Matt Mangini: 90 at bats, .389/.454/.555, 5 HR, 29 RBI.
As a team OSU is hitting .348/.433/.578 and scoring 9.5 runs per game. It is just ridiculous.
Last night Nick Czyz got the start and held the Cowboys in check into the 6th inning. He left the game one out into the inning with a 4-3 lead. Esquibel came in and continued his mid-season slump by giving up seven runs (four earned) in two innings of work.
After last nights game OSU's record stands at 18-5 (1-0) while KU dropped to 14-13 (1-3). The series continues today, Saturday, with a 1PM game, and concludes on Sunday with another 1:00 start.
Hopefully things will lighten up for me after Monday and I will get a stat update posted early in the week. Let's get some runs today and hope Ashwood and Marks are able to keep the Cowboys under control for the rest of the weekend.
