Baseball: KU vs. Stanford

The Jayhawks and the Stanford Cardinal will play a weekend series starting tonight. Stanford has a very strong baseball program, contending every season for a birth in the post-season NCAA tournament. While neither KU or Stanford is currently ranked both teams are receiving votes in the NCBWA poll.  The Cardinal leds the all-time series vs. the Jayhawks 7-2. Mark Marquess, Stanford's head coach, will be in the hall of fame at some point in the future. He has coached there for 30 years with a career record of 1,261-622-5 (12th highest total in NCAA history). Rich Price will be going for his 153rd career victory tonight. The KU season really starts this weekend.

Last year KU took two out of three from the Cardinal, spring-boarding their season to a strong start and early national attention.  Let's hope they do as well in 2007.  It is an important series.
