Baseball: Travis Blankenship to join Jayhawks

Free State High School alumni Travis Blankenship signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at KU.  He will be eligible for the 2009 season and have three years of eligablity remaining.

Blankenship is a left handed pitcher listed as 5-11, 185 lbs. Travis pitched a shutout in the Kansas 6A Baseball Championship series, helping the Firebirds claim the state crown in 2006. Photo courtsey of

Last year Blankenship pitched at Johnson County Community College and did reasonably well.

69.0 Innings, 80 hits, 2.94 ERA, 27/48 BB/K.

Blankenship pitched in 15 games, 13 as a starter.  He went 6-2.  Most impressive, he went the distance in three of his 13 starts.  The JCCC stat page is pretty hard to read, and not very conventional, but if I understand it correctly Blankenship gave up 51 runs in those 69 innings, however only 29 of them were earned?  If so he would actually have an ERA of 3.78.

Well, welcome aboard to Travis.  Keep that ball down.  If anyone reading is more familar with Blankenship from his high school career please pass on your comments.
