Recruit Profile: RB Brian Murphy

This is my first look at a member of our 2007 recruiting class, starting with the lowest ranked recruit according to Rivals. So, 2 star running back Brian Murphy is the first future Jayhawk we will profile so hold on tight to your seat.

Murphy is 5'8" and 163 pounds making him quite undersized for a runningback at the D-1 level. He played his highschool ball in Lawrence, Kansas with his twin brother Ryan Murphy, who also committed to the University of Kansas and will likely be a defensive back for the Jayhawks. He was also recruited by in-state rival Kansas State and Oklahoma State, but eventually chose his hometown school. He was ranked the 15th best prospect in all of Kansas and Rivals has him listed as a 5.1 on their scale. Here is that description for a 5.1:

5.4-5.0 Division I prospect; considered a mid-major prospect; deemed to have limited pro potential but definite Division I prospect; may be more of a role player
His 40 time is 4.57, vertical jump is 32 inches and his shuttle time is 4.72 seconds. Not great numbers and certainly not pro numbers, but hopefully just fast enough to be a contributor for the Jayhawks.

He will probably fit in as a 3rd down back and maybe even a slot receiver, depending on how well he catches the football. Especially with Carom Boyd-Anderson and other recruits coming in along with returning backs, he likely will never see significant time on the field.
