WE ARE FRICKIN' NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!!11!!!111!!!!1eleve1!!!ntyone!!!!!

Update #2: Sorry, but I still haven't really gotten over the fact that, for the first time in my life, my team is the best in the entire country. That we are National Champions. So, while we will talk about the Memphis game shortly, then proceed to wrap up both the 2007 football season (incredibly delayed) and the 2007-08 basketball season. Then, we will start looking ahead to the future and all of the promise it provides, especially on the girdiron. But for now, just watch that YouTube a couple more times. You can't get sick of it...I promise.

That shot, and the picture that is immediately preceding these National Championship-driven words, is the greatest shot in Kansas history.

Mario Chalmers is now, officially, my most favoritest of players in any sport of all time. And he will stay that way for awhile.

You, Jayhawk fan, are a Frickin' National Champion!

ROCK CHALK!

Update: I could watch this shot on an endless loop forever...

(YouTube changed to show more before and after 'The Shot'. Because yes, it has already been christened 'The Shot'. Or Mario's Miracle, if you take SI's side. Either way, we are National Champions.

Congratulations Kansas
Congratulations Kansas,

You played with true grit and class. You deserve this. I know I should take the high road but Memphis was a team of thugs, especially Dorsey. Glad you fouled him out.

P.S. I hope they wasted all their FT mojo in defeating us on Saturday.

Great game.

No, Thank You...
You guys made my disappointing weekend somewhat better. Thanks and enjoy the party!

Some teams, playing with the dignity and level of  competitiveness befitting the sport, will always be there come Tourney time. Kansas and UCLA are a few of the best. See you next year.

I Hope
But I would be shocked if we get to the Final Four next year losing so many good players.

You guys on the other hand...

Congratulations from Roll Bama Roll
That was an amazing finish, and I must say that as a Birmingham native and UAB basketball fan, my hatred for Memphis basketball is only slightly less fierce than my Alabama football fueled hatred of Tennessee, so I was rooting hard for you guys.  Great game!

i really appreciate all of the awesome sentiment...

Congrats, Jayhawk fans!!
I don't have a favorite college bball team, so I was just hoping for a great game.

As it turns out, I got my wish.  And so did you guys and gals!

Congrats!

Congrats
Wow, you guys make great champions!  I am a Texas alum who just wanted to congratulate y'all on an excellent season and probably the best final game I've ever watched.  The only silver lining I saw when the SWC was disbanded and we joined the Big XII was the chance to regularly play the Jayhawks in basketball and the Huskers in football.  Great programs with great tradition.  Rock on Big XII!  Enjoy this one and we'll see you next year.

Enjoy it
You guys earned it. I am a Syracuse fan, but Kansas has always been a team that I followed and rooted for from back in the Rex Walters-Adonis Jordan days. Been a big fan of the program and you guys earned the 'W' tonight.

Congrats from Crimson and Cream Machine
We'd like to send out a big congratulation to the Kansas Jayhawks for their 75-68 overtime victory over the Memphis Tigers in the NCAA basketball championship game. Thank for stepping up and bringing another national championship to the Big 12 conference and please, please, please don't let Bill Self leave Lawrence for Stillwater.

Unbelievable
What a game. I get shivers thinking about it. I break out smiling spontaneously. This truly is amazing.

Oranges and titles....not a bad year

Can you imagine how the player must feel.
Absolute euphoria.  My wife said they looked so full of total joy that this night will add years to their lives.  It is a team full of likable hardworking players.  It is really easy to be happy for these guys.

It is gray and raining here in Lawrence now.  The team will be honored at the football stadium at 3PM.  I hope the weather turns for the homecoming.

Credit to Memphis
They only lost twice, and both losses were very hard-fought.  The first broke the undefeated season, and the second was for all the marbles.  Very few teams have had such a run.

That makes the win all the more significant.  KU jut beat one of the best teams in a long time.

Now, go around the SBNation horn to the other basketball schools and read up on the comment threads.  I think you'll be a little surprised at just how much support KU had - more than it initially seems.

by hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:04 AM CDT   0 recs

Congrats KU!
What a game!!  I really enjoyed watching Kansas in both the Final Four and the Championship game - (LOVED watching KU give it to UNC, by the way!)
Here's to KU from UK and to BOTH of us keeping our coaches ;)  Congrats again JayHawks - you earned it!!!

by kentuckygirl0724 on Apr 8, 2008 10:23 AM CDT   0 recs

Congrats, Jayhawks
It was bittersweet to watch (I was so hoping this was our year) but what a great game!!  Memphis was very good for 38 minutes, but the real Champs played 40+5.  Your players and your coach showed a lot of class, and KU truly deserved this title.  Even made Roy Williams a fan - ha!

Congrats again.  Maybe we'll meet in Detroit next year?!

Go Bruins

The Hits Just Keep on Coming!
HCBS is officially sticking around!!!! Whooo hooo! Can't wait to see some of the details in that contract- turning down OSU before any numbers were even discussed shows an amazing amount of loyalty on his part. That needs to be rewarded.

Great support from the blogger community here- good to see.
