Kansas (25-22) vs. Missouri (29-14) at Kauffman Statdium

The Jayhawks will meet the Missouri Tigers in an out of conference game Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch 7PM. The game will be carried live on KLWN (AM 1320) as well as on KJHK (FM 90.7). KU will provide a webcast for those outside the Lawrence area (www.kuathletics.com). Tickets for the game are $10.
This will be the first of what I expect both schools hope will become an annual event. As I have been thinking about the game it occurred to me, why not invite Nebraska and Kansas State next year and turn it into a double-header! I think it would be a great way for Kansas City Big-12 fans to watch their favorite teams play without driving all the way to Manhattan or Lincoln. Plus I know all four of these teams struggle to find high quality mid-week opponents.
Getting back to the Kansas-Missouri game, the contest will not count in the conference standings so it really is just for pride at this point. These two teams have a fierce rivalry and I am sure they will not hold back anything during this mid-week game.
Kansas will call on Shaeffer Hall (2-2, 6.02 ERA) while Missouri will start Ian Berger (3-3, 3.02 ERA). Berger is pretty impressive on the mound. 56.2 Innings, 44 hits, 12/45 BB/K. Hopefully Hall will break out of his funk and deliver a strong start.

A few historical notes about the series
If I had known about that glorious 19th century beat-down earlier I would have pushed for the game to be played with retro uniforms and gear. The gloves would be replaced by large stuffed leather mittens. The bats would just be thick wooden poles. The bases would be old workshirts stuffed with sand. In such a setting the Jayhawks would almost be destined to win.

KU 1 - MU 0 (8th Inning)
I expect Price will pull Hall to start the eighth. He sounded like he was running on fumes in the seventh. Great game.

Final Score: Kansas 3 - Missouri 0
KU's runs came on Ryne Prices second inning solo homerun and a two run single by John Allman in the eighth inning.
According to Brian Hanni the crowd was about 2,000 strong, which was more than Kaufmann stadium was expecting. It was taking fans three innings to get through the concession lines.
KU hosts Oklahoma this weekend at Hoglund. The Hawks will go into the important series with some nice momentum.
One other note. Texas pitcher Ken Kasparek pitched a no-hitter tonight vs. Texas State. This must have come as very welcome news to UT baseball fans.
