I'm Proud to Be a Jayhawk

We lost.

Just like everyone else in college football, save the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii, someone beat us. I finally, for the first time in my life, know what it is like to lose a college football game that means so much. I know what it means to control your own destiny for a trip to the National Title game, and lose.

It's a tough feeling. But just the mere fact that we were there, just the opportunity to control our own destiny is enough progress for one year. We didn't go to a bowl game last year, barely qualifying at 6-6. This year, we are heading into the postseason stage of college football at 11-1, a trip to the Cotton Bowl or better all but wrapped up.

We lost to a better team tonight, the best team in the country right now. It's OK. Next year, we might be the better team. That is yet to be determined.

One thing I do know, however, is that this team is still relatively young. We will return almost everyone on our defense, James McClinton is a senior and Aqib Talib might leave early for the NFL, and our offense only loses 3 starters (WR Marcus Henry, TE Derek Fine and RT Cesar Rodriguez).

Much more on this game tomorrow and throughout the coming weeks, we have nothing else to talk about until our bowl assignment, but for now enjoy the season. Yes, we lost, I know. But the Kansas Jayhawks are 11-1 and just completed the greatest season in this schools' history.

Enjoy it.

The sun came up today
I woke up (hungover) and the Jayhawks were still a top ten football team.  Nothing wrong with that.

Just Wish
Just wish we would have played up to our abilities in the first half. Dunno if we would have won anyways, but its frustrating knowing how well we could move the ball once we finally settled down in the second half.

Otherwise, of course I'm damn proud of this team. What they pulled off this year is nothing short of remarkable.

Anybody have any bowl scenarios? Given our relatively weak history of traveling to these games in the past, I wouldn't be shocked if we were the top BCS team to not get a BCS bowl.

Holiday Bowl vs. Oregon maybe?  Cotton Bowl vs. Florida? Just grasping at straws at this point.

KU is ranked #5 in the BCS
Unless Oklahoma beats Missouri in the Big-12 Championship the Jayhawks will be in a BCS bowl game.  ESPN predicted the Fiesta Bowl vs. Arizona State.

If Oklahoma beats Missouri then things get iffy.  Will the Big-12 get three teams in the BCS?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't
No conference can have three teams in the BCS.

This leads to the ultimate moral conundrum: cheer for MU in the hopes of getting a BCS game? Or enjoying the beautiful schadenfreude of watching them choke away the greatest opportunity in school history?

I'm going with the latter. Mostly because I'm a petty, petty person, but also because I don't feel like we need the BCS recognition to make this an all-time great season.

Other than the money, is there really that much difference between the Fiesta Bowl and the Holliday Bowl, for example? San Diego is more fun than Tempe anyway.

Aw
That's sweet. But the other reason you should root against us is that if you were to actually face a good team in the Fiesta...well, we all know how you guys do against good opponents.

Sorry. I gave you 24 hours off. But if you're going to be like that, I'll have to remind you of your place. Which is, of course, beneath us, getting ridden.

by mizzourobot on Nov 25, 2007 7:40 PM CST up reply actions

You call that "ridden"?
No wonder Missouri women look so disappointed.

By "ridden," you mean, be an onside kick recovery away from having the ball and a chance to win? Or not missing two field goals and being tied? Or do you mean one mysterious defensive holding call (seriously, was that like the Zupruder film???) + 2 missed field goals away from winning?  Which one do you mean?

BOOMER!!!

Nice
so your best response is "That was waaay closer than it could have been!"?

Nice.

Most common phrase I've heard today about the game? Score was closer than the game. So true. Did you ever really think after the kickoff that you were going to win that game? With how we shredded you down after down after down?

Just take it like a man. By the way, don't even start to bring the refs in on this. You got every call in the book going for you, and we still kicked your ass.

And with that ball and the chance to win, how did that work out? Oh yeah. With your quarterback with a face full of turf, looking like an overmatched jackass.

Fitting.

i disagree...
i want moo to win.

i want to make a BCS bowl, i am confident against every team save moo, west va and lsu. every other team i am confident we can beat...

sorry guys for not even getting a thread up for the AZ basketball game. i have had a rough day.

the chiefs loss didnt make it any better....

Craziest scenario that i can think of...
Missouri loses to Oklahoma in a low scoring game, West Virginia loses to Pitt, and Tenn and LSU play an ugly close game. Then it is Ohio State 1 KU 2,  (Georgia is ahead of us not but the computers like us over them) and we sneak back into the National Championship game. Of course that is all ridiculous but what hasn't been about this season?

Anyways I think ESPN is right and we end up in the Fiesta Bowl. I will take anything and I don't think we will freefall like K-State did a few years back.

I Forgot that BC needs to beat VT
in my earlier hypothetical. But that is at least in the realm of possibility.
