RCT Fantasy Football: Week 2 Recap

Week 2 is in the books. With such a limited sample size, it's hard to draw any specific conclusions. I will say this: so far, there appear to be three pretty solid teams, and four pretty ... let's say, weak teams. I'm sure you'll be able to pick them out as we go through the recap.

Today's guest of honor is the Ghost That Never Lies. But, I'm the only one who can see him and hear him, so I'll let everyone know what he's saying. I guess you guys will just have to trust me on this one, that I'm accurately transcribing his words for you.

mv: Ghost That Never Lies, how excited are you to keep tabs on RCTFFL this fall?

GTNL: It's quite the competitive league, and I can't wait to see who comes out on top this year.

mv: Do you have an early favorite?

GTNL: I would have to say averagegatsby and his band, Turn Down For Watt. That's a high-scoring team that will be a tough out.

mv: Any other comments you'd like to make before we take a look at the teams?

GTNL: I would just like to say that whoever drafted Adrian Peterson is a worthless piece of trash who believes football is more important than children.

mv: You do? Well, how interesting. Did you witness the events that took place on that fateful day?

GTNL: Yup.

mv: And do you see the culprit or culprits in this room today? You do? Well, would you kindly point him or them out for us?

GTNL: Yup.

mv: What?? Don't point at me, you jackass!

GTNL: Just telling it like it is, you jerk.

mv: Sigh. Whatever. Let's take a look at how the league stacks up after Week 2. Just FYI, we won't start tracking weekly movements in the power rankings until, say, Week 4.

RCTFFL Power Rankings

1. Turn Down For Watt (2-0) - averagegatsby

Last week: Win vs Catfishes, 93-71.2

This week: vs Fighting 5.7s

mv: Gats just keeps rolling along, and although 93 points doesn't seem like a lot, this past week was a down week in scoring across the league. Gats is 2-0 and looking strong.

GTNL: I see Gats is a slight underdog in his matchup this weekend. He'll be OK if AJ Green goes, I think.

2. Demaryius Targaryen (2-0) - illmitch

Last week: Win vs Jayshox, 92.1-69.6

This week: vs Abramo

mv: Uh... dude just put up a 90-spot without a QB last week. With the Johnsons at WR and Sproles having a WTF week, they had no trouble moving to 2-0.

GTNL: Haha, yeah, that was pretty funny. More on the Jayshox later. Targaryen has a pretty solid roster, and I look for them to be in the thick of things come playoff time.

3. Mantis Shrimp Murder Sticks (2-0) - Johns4th

Last week: Win vs Eva, 76.4-71.2

This week: vs Jayshox

mv: MSMS pulled out a squeaker last week. How far can LeSean McCoy carry this team?

GTNL: McCoy will carry them as far as Matt Ryan will let him. It's hard to win a fantasy league with one good player. McCoy is solid, and there's a few other serviceable players, but I think it will be nip and tuck for them throughout the season.

4. Golden Nuggs (1-1) - mikeville

Last week: Win vs Tamba, 115.3-98

This week: vs Delhi Meats

mv: GN bounced back in a big way with a dominating performance over the Halis, despite missing Peterson and RG3. Can they make a run for the title this year?

GTNL: As long as they have that piece of crap Peterson on their roster, no comment.

5. Delhi Meats (1-1) - 2.1secondsleft

Last week: Win vs Unfit Boys, 109.4-70.1

This week: vs Golden Nuggs

mv: Well, since you won't talk about the Nuggs, maybe you'd care to share your thoughts on Delhi Meats?

GTNL: This jerk drafted Jonathan Dwyer, who is also a jerk along the same lines as Peterson and Rice. At least he had the prudence to drop this locker room distraction. He's got a power two with Aaron Rodgers and Le'veon Bell, but if either of those guys has a down week, the Meats could get stinky, and fast.

6. The Fighting 5.7s (1-1) - KUGrad08

Last week: Win vs Abramo, 91-75.3

This week: vs Turn Down For Watt

mv: Fighting has a tall task in front of them, don't they?

GTNL: Well, Fighting is a slight favorite at this point. They just gotta hope Tony Romo throws it to his Cowboy teammates. Other than that, points are gonna have to come from Marshawn Lynch going Beast Mode on the Broncos, and who knows how likely that is, especially if the Broncos get an early lead.

7. Yummy Catfishes (1-1) - KJordan29

Last week: Loss vs Turn Down For Watt, 71.2-93

This week: vs Swamp Apes

mv: The Catfishes had a rough time scoring points, with Matt Forte, Toby Gerhart, and Torrey Smith combining for 6.3 points. Yeesh.

GTNL: Yeah, they got totally lucky that Jordy Nelson just went off last week, or this would have been much worse. Can't have off days from Forte, and they gotta find another RB. Hopefully for them, Khiry Robinson will be a nice pickup.

8. East Norwegian Land Crab (1-1) - PenHawk

Last week: Win vs Swamp Apes, 68.2-64.3

This week: vs Hot Tamba Halis

mv: Land Crab got a win by the narrowest of margins, and without scoring very many points. Moreno got hurt, Garcon didn't produce - I'd say it was a lucky win.

GTNL: Definitely a lucky win. Not sure who they'll be able to turn to at RB. Better hope the Saints keep throwing the ball to just Jimmy Graham I guess. Dude is starting two TEs. Who does that?

9. Montana Jayshox (1-1) - kstaff753

Last week: Loss vs Targaryen, 69.6-92.1

This week: vs Murder Sticks

mv: Alright, you promised we'd get to the Jayshox later, and here we are. What was so funny?

GTNL: What are you talking about? Dude lost to a team that started Derek Anderson at QB. DEREK ANDERSON. Anderson didn't start or even record a stat last week. Also, he had a WR score negative points. How does that happen? Just hilarious.

10. Everglades Swamp Apes (1-1) - FLJhawk

Last week: Loss vs Land Crab, 64.3-68.2

This week: vs Catfishes

mv: Their hoss, Jamaal Charles, will miss some time. Stafford can usually be counted on, but how much are they rolling the dice with Cordarrelle Patterson, Markus Wheaton, and Travis Kelce?

GTNL: Charles' ankle injury will likely linger most of the season, which might limit the Apes. High ankle sprains don't just go away over a bye week. He does have some exciting playmakers at WR, and needs to hope there aren't very many famine weeks that you sometimes see with players this early in their careers.

11. Aisle End of Unfit ‘Boys (Formerly Oops Eiferted) (1-1) - misterbrain

Last week: Loss vs Delhi Meats

This week: vs Eva

mv: Lots of injury bugs are biting into the meats. Before you know it there'll just be a ton of maggots everywhere.

GTNL: Yeah, it's not pretty. Plus, there's the QB situation - Alex Smith or Jake Locker? Gross. Bobby Rainey was a nice pickup, though.

12. Hot Tamba Halis (0-2) - fizzle406

Last week: Loss vs Golden Nuggs, 98-115.3

This week: vs Land Crab

mv: Shall we all just LoL at the commissioner's team for moment?

GTNL: I don't laugh at domestic violence. I think it's disgusting that this jerk drafted Ray Rice, even knowing he had been suspended for striking his wife. So no, I will not be laughing, at least not until sweet justice prevails and this team goes winless in this league.

13. Eva, Destroyer of Worlds (0-2) - Comercialeer

Last week: Loss vs Murder Sticks, 71.2-76.4

This week: vs Unfit Boys

mv: The guy with Peyton Manning drops another game. I guess you do have to have more than just a QB to pull it off in this league.

GTNL: Yeah, the rest of the roster is brutal. I mean, seriously, how long until C.J. Spiller gets hurt? Larry Fitzgerald has been fantasy famine for like, three years now. And there's just not much else on this team.

14. Team Abramo (0-2) - DuckinKS

Last week: Loss vs Fighting 5.7s, 75.3-91

This week: vs Targaryen

mv: Well, Abramo increased his point total by 50%, but it wasn't nearly enough. Literally all of that increase came from the Patriots defense. Thoughts?

GTNL: If they get any wins this year, it will be a pretty big upset, I would think. Unless it's against the Halis. That would just be a minor upset.

Thanks for joining us, Ghost Who Never Lies! Just a couple more quick questions and we'll get this wrapped up.

mv: Care to predict who the RCTFFL Sooper Bowl (don't want to infringe on any copyrights) champion will be?

GTNL: Way too early to make any sort of prediction. Although I'm sure that karma will catch up with mikeville for drafting Peterson. And the Halis for Rice. And the Meats for Dwyer.

mv: Time to get over that, buddy. Predictions on who will be the ultimate loser?

GTNL: Again, way too early, but Abramo has only scored 127.5 points in two weeks... that just ain't gonna cut it.

mv: Give us one crazy prediction for Week 3.

GTNL: Clemson knocks off Florida State.

mv: How do you think the ‘Hawks will do against Central Michigan on Saturday?

GTNL: Last time these two teams played, Kansas won 52-7. So that's what I'll predict.

Well, there you all have it, the Ghost That Never Lies.
