Huh. Well, OK. That's that I guess.
I'm not sure who was wearing the blue jerseys, but it sure didn't look like the same gritty Kansas squad we've seen during the past nine games. The Jayhawks fell behind 7-0 early and never really made it very competitive after that. KU went into halftime "only" down 10 points, and did make a small run at the Owls after the break, closing to within 35-29 at the 17:28 mark. An 11-2 Temple run put away the, uh, comeback bid, and at that point it was curtains for the 'Hawks.
If you read through our game thread you might have thought that Temple went lights out from beyond the arc, but that wasn't necessarily the case. As of the 11:00 mark of the second half, the Owls were only 3/14 from 3-pt land. Temple would finish the game 7/20 from beyond the arc compared to KU's 7/19.
Frank Mason led Kansas in scoring with 20 points on 8/15 shooting (4/6 from 3-pt). No other Jayhawk made it to double figures.
KU outrebounded the Owls by only one, 32-31. Kelly Oubre led the way there with 7 boards. As a team, the 'Hawks only collected eight assists, with three of those credited to Wayne Selden.
Kansas shot 9/15 from the free throw line while Temple went 14/19.
Next up for Kansas is Kent State in Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday, December 30, at 7 PM Kansas time. Poor, poor Kent State. I hope the Golden Flashes feel the full wrath of an angry bunch of Jayhawks.
