Much of us speculated, that Kansas might receive a few blemishes during their stretch of 5 straight games against ranked opponents, to start conference play. Much less, then Kansas escaping through the path of teams that were in Kansas's way of winning Big 12 for 10th straight year, unscathed.
Giving Kansas's 5th win already in Big 12 play. Posting a 5-0 record puts Kansas, yet again in what it seems like every year a solid spot of winning the Big 12 Title..again. But this start has seemed to be a bit surprising, considering the outcome resulted by most teams. Iowa State, Baylor are both 1-4. Oklahoma State has 2 losses already (both coming to KU and KState). All of which were thought as Kansas biggest hurdles in Conference race, at the start of the season. This has resulted in a big cushion for Kansas to sit atop of the standings with. Maybe its also because KU has beaten these teams early, to get them out of the way. But, for Kansas beating the top teams early gives a little release of concern. Even though they still have to travel to Waco, Austin, Stillwater, and our favorite Manhattan. Is just a few other obstacles facing Kansas' path still. Though, for a young team right now. It seems as if they have responded to the tough climate and feel it as more of a routine to play tough opponents every night.
Now if you want to get into critical terms of the standings. K-State has only 1 loss coming to the hands of Kansas. They are a quiet 4-1 after all. Trailing just 1/2 game back from us. Yet, KSU really at all hasn't been through the meat of their schedule. They beat West Virginia, OU, and OSU all at home. Losing to Kansas and beating a lower-level TCU team for their lone 2 road games. They, themselves unlike Kansas, has to go to Ames on Saturday, Austin Tuesday night, Norman, and Stillwater left. And you might want to throw in the date in Waco too.
So, with that being said. The win over Baylor tonight is another hurdle passed for Kansas. Right now the high record is in our favor. We need ro maintain that. Because we all now, the conference race can change at any moment.
