Nine lives? KU players reflect on their bid for another Big 12 title - KansasCity.com
When the Jayhawks take the floor at Baylor on Saturday night, they will be well aware of their situation: If K-State loses earlier in the day at Oklahoma State, KU clinches a share of the title and the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 tournament by virtue of sweeping the Wildcats in the regular season. A K-State loss and a KU win would give the Jayhawks the title outright. But if K-State wins, KU will have the added burden of needing a road victory to lock up a share of the title and keep its Big 12 regular-season championship streak alive at nine.

“Extremely bad,” KU senior center Jeff Withey said, when asked by a media member “how bad” he wants yet another championship ring.

Withey’s most potent competition might come from inside his own locker room. KU freshman Ben McLemore is averaging more points (16.5) than McGruder or Smart — and he dropped at least 30 points in three different Big 12 games.
