During this recruiting cycle the Kansas Jayhawk coaching staff has made a few trips into the Pacific heading to Hawaii where they have targeted Army All American Reeve Koehler. Keohler was often believed to be a heavy Tennessee lean prior to the firing of the staff at the end of the 2012 season, another byproduct of that change was the reopening of the recruitment for inside linebacker Colton Goeas. Goeas is the teammate of Koehler and JayhawkSlant is reporting that Goeas has now committed to Charlie Weis and the Jayhawks.
What does all this mean? First and foremost the Jayhawks have landed a three star inside linebacker from Hawaii that checks in at 6'2" 245 pounds and boasts offers from Tennessee, UCLA, Washington State and others. This marks the second year that Weis has landed a solid high school middle linebacker prospect following up the signing of Schyler Miles with another solid prospect. It also means that Kansas could be sitting pretty with teammate Reeve Koehler who said he might announce this week at the Army All American game.
Koehler and Goeas were believed to be a package deal with Tennessee and that may now be the case with Kansas. Should Koehler choose to announce this week, things would have to look fairly good for Kansas as his other finalists are Tennessee, Arkansas and Cal. He hasn't visited Arkansas yet, his relationship with the new Tennessee staff isn't as solid as the old and Cal is also breaking in a new staff with Sonny Dykes. Now this is far from a guarantee, Kansas is going up against some big programs with this one, but the commitment of Goeas has to be a positive in the eyes of the Jayhawk staff and what better way to cap this recruiting season than an on air commitment at the Army All American game from Koehler to join his teammate with the Jayhawks.
