Milton Doyle at KU Sunday, June 17; Rio Adams arriving July 1

The Lawrence Journal-World/KUSports.com reports that Doyle will arrive in Lawrence tomorrow to start classes on Monday. He will be rooming with fellow freshman Tyler Self. Both Doyle and Anrio Adams had their HS graduations this week. Adams reports on Facebook he will be on campus on July 1.

Both Doyle and Adams were awaiting their final grades to determine if they would fully qualify to play 2012-13. Both are confident they are good to go in that regard. If Adams' grades are okay, there is still the question of the NCAA reviewing his records more stringently because he attended 3 HS. Adams played for 1 school his Fr&So years, had issues with that program early in his junior year and transferred to his second school, where he did not play his junior year. He was considering going east to play for his senior year, but decided to stay in Seattle to finish HS. He transferred to Rainier Beach, leading them to their league title and the Washington 3A state title in his senior year. Unlike both Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor (3 HS attenders ruled only partially qualified by the NCAA last year), in Adams' favor is all three of his HS are in the Seattle public school system. Accordingly, they should have the same academic standards for the NCAA to consider in evaluating Adams' core curriculum grades.

Doyle was not followed by the recruiting services because he broke his hand his junior year, sat out playing the following summer to focus on academics, and signed early (financial aid agreement, *not* a National Letter of Intent) with Florida International to play for Isiah Thomas. The early signing effectively took him off the market at the start of what became a First Team All-Chicago HS senior season, which would have given him some press in the recruiting mills. When FIU fired Thomas, Doyle reopened his search. He is a 6-4/185 combo guard who Chicago writers and his HS coach say has tremendous potential at the next level. Given all the details, despite his lack of ratings from the recruiting services, he looks like he might actually be a diamond in the rough, especially once Hudy buffs him up.
