Kansas Jayhawks at Texas A&M Aggies Open Game Thread

Welcome to Rock Chalk Talk and your open game thread for the Kansas Jayhawks vs the Texas A&M Aggies. Not going to lie, I'm pretty nervous about this one. Kansas State handed us a nice little gift last night and I hate to see us give it right back just like we did last time Missouri was kind enough to give us an edge. Bill Self needs to have this team 100% focused on taking care of tonight and I hope we can do it in a relatively boring and efficient manner.

I hate these kinds of games.
Hopefully we can take care of business before it gets too ugly.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Of course, ND and WVU will ease the transition.
It’s like watching 4 hours of ugliness.

The only way we'll take care of business before it gets too ugly
Is if A&M suspends every scholarship player on the team in the next 60 minutes.
Way to ruin my night.

Speaking if ugly...
Syracuse 24 – USF 20 at the half in the Dome and ’Cuse is shooting 31%.
thexpanse.net
Guess Syracuse had a decent end to the half.
I saw the score twice. Once at 18-5, and once at 20-7.
I hope so.
One of the easiest ways to put yourself in a good position to win a bracket is to let everyone who follows espn, but not basketball, pick a bunch of Big East teams to win a lot in the tournament while you pick 7 of the 9 to not make it out of the first weekend.
www.oreadboomkings.fantake.com
my wife has watched maybe 20 total minutes of only KU playing this year
and I guarantee you she will dominate me in our brackets
CBS Sports had an article
this week asking if he Big East was the best basketball conference. I didn’t know whether to cry or laugh. I think they were trying to compete for the worst basketball coverage in the nation with Fox Sports. Does anyone else remember a year or two ago when KU was playing either UCLA or USC in the non con and a Fox Sports announcer called KU K-State for an entire half? I seriously almost threw my TV. Max, we miss you!
Gotta win this one.
Mizzou is gonna be out for blood on Saturday.

I can't imagine that either team could be more motivated on Saturday than they already would have been.
Still, we need this one to keep the margin for the potential letdown against Okie State.
My thoughts....
Win tonight and KU is in a very good position to win the B12.

Win three of the next four
and I can live with losing first round of both tournaments. Not that I want them to but sending MU off in tears would just be so fantastic. And of course Sat’s game is an absolute must.
was thinking the same
www.oreadboomkings.fantake.com
Hopefully OSU comes out Monday like they did tonight against OU.
Only 12 points in the first half.
Nope.
Win tonight and Saturday and I won’t really care.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

True
Win tonight and Saturday and OSU won’t matter much. Be nice to stop MU from sharing the title, but I’d rather clinch our share Saturday and not have to worry about it next week.
A win tonight and Saturday does that right?

So this is slightly off topic
but did the dumbass not named Fran Fraschilla just say Kentucky doesn’t have any depth? What a clown.
I think UK actually has very few bench minutes played
Somebody with access to Kenpom.com can confirm/deny
I wouldn't play my bench either much with their starting 5 but
they have Jones, Davis, Teague, MKG, Lamb, Wiltjer and Miller… that’s 7 really good players.

they don’t have depth. Wiltjer and Miller would start almost anywhere in the country.

Yeah, people confuse "depth"
with “number of subs frequently used.”
Criticize FHOFNCHCBS at your own risk...
I guess its just that depth has traditionally been thought of as how many people you play
And how often. Quality depth is definitely more important, like when we had 7 guys that could have all been stars at other schools play all our important minutes in 07-08

So at what point do I lose sleep over our inability to close out games?
This was way too similar to the KState game. Road win is always a road win, especially against a muddy-it-up team like that, but still. I think when we got up by 17 we started thinking about Missourah.

I think we just run out of energy.
Although tonight I think a big part was TT picking up his 4th foul. He picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls close together, and once he went out we didn’t hit a FG for 6 minutes, and even then it was TT doing so. Of course we weren’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard prior to that, so maybe it didn’t matter all that much.
The rare times we haven't had TT on the floor this season...
We look like a completely different team. Even if he isn’t scoring, our offense just runs 80 times better with him handling the point. Teams don’t fear EJ and Releford enough.

I just had someone point out something interesting...
http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410/championships/pdfs/2012_mbasketball_bracket.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=10410
Assuming a win Sat. it looks like our road to a tourney championship would be A&M, KSU/ISU, MU/BU (most likely MU). As opposed to OSU/TT, BU/UT, MU/KSU/ISU if we had the 2 seed instead. I like the 2 seeds road better but oh well, I’d still much rather take that 8th straight reg season champ.
Too early to predict
Iowa State could easily finish ahead of Baylor
Sincerely doubt that.
Other than playing each other once more their 2 remaining games are: ISU: KSU,MU and BU: OU,TT both at home.
