This is more about the culture change Weis has implemented in a relatively short time. He is talking about KU football in February, describing recruits in terms like “rocked-up unit,” and people are actually listening.

Kansas finishes strong, beats Oklahoma 84-62 - KansasCity.com
Whatever happened in the Kansas locker room at halftime Wednesday night, the Jayhawks need to bottle it. For the second time this season, Kansas changed identity at the break and wound up pounding Oklahoma 84-62.
KU's Johnson, Releford smother OU's Pledger in win | CJOnline.com
Defense is going to be huge on Saturday. Missouri is quicker, we're bigger. We're going to need a great defensive performance and the inside matchup is going to be very interesting.
Now Jayhawks can focus on Missouri | KUsports.com
Going to need to be focused and play with energy. Whatever we do we can't let the crowd and environment in Columbia get the better of us early. I'm with Bensa in that I think we face an uphill battle here.

Anyone notice the blunk sign from the students?
T-Rob really is like a more-skilled Blake Griffin. Plays with the same energy, but Thomas can actually shoot.
Also, great quote from Withey
Thomas played great tonight," 7-footer Withey said. "I couldn’t get any rebounds. He took all of them.

Griffin didn't have to shoot in college because he could dominate every player
he went against down low. But if you watch him in the NBA he is a very sweet stroke.

I watched him brick a free throw last night, and he followed it up with an airball.
But I have an admittedly small sample of experience with him doing anything besides dunks/layups.

Agree on listening to Weis
His news conferences reveal a dry wit that’s quite fun. A big contrast from TA, Mangino and Turner. Haven’t had that since the Ace of Mase.

Yes, we have.
I’m a grumpity, grump, grump, grump! :)
The chant is awful. It is an embarrassment to the school quite honestly. We can’t be original and had to copycat something from an awful movie. Yes, I can’t STAND the Waterboy.
Our students need to come up with something creative and original. Not a knockoff.

FYI.
The reason most don’t notice it anymore are twofold.
1. We have to score to be able to do a kickoff.
2. They keep the music on the PA system blaring during the few kickoffs we have to tune out the student section.

The worst result is
that it just convinces referees to stick it to the home team deeper and harder.
As a former ref, the more the crowd complained, the surer I was that I was doing a good job.

A lot of fans think booing every call as loud as possible
is the whole basis for a home court advantage and good game atmosphere. They really think they’re doing their duty.
Of course… these are sports fans, and the conventional wisdom of sports fans is worth neither jack nor shit. Still, it’s interesting to hear a ref’s point of view.
In basketball, about half the calls made will piss off one side.
Doesn’t matter, somebody’s going to be mad unless it’s a blatantly obvious foul (almost flagrant variety) or travel where the guy just jumps and then comes back down with the ball.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

But what does everyone think of Miles Simon as the color analyst? I’ve resented that guy ever since ‘97, but I think he does an awesome job. Bilas is better, but other than maybe Gottlieb, that’s about it I think.

he played in the CBA in my hometown and was just a gigantic asshole so that kind of colors my opinion on him, but I guess at that point he was probably still thinking he should be in the NBA since he was league MVP that year

Not a fan
Talks too much about “when I was at Arizona…”
That was my same issue with Jay Williams. I know the second half was a blowout, but we didn’t need his long story about being recruited by Lon at Florida.
No one holds a candle to Bilas. Fran F is a close second. Would rather have Fran and Mitch than Mitch and Miles on Wednesday nights.
by jayhawk1996 on Feb 2, 2012 9:41 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
Interesting...
I absolutely understand not liking his Arizona references. But if that bothers you, I’m surprised Fran’s constant recollections of how he did when he was a coach doesn’t rub you the same way.
by hiphopopotamus on Feb 2, 2012 10:10 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
Fran does that a lot
But it has something to do with the game when he does. Miles just likes to humblebrag about things. He needs to sit down with Coach Knight and learn to break down an offense.

The producers for game broadcasts
can’t seem to decide if it’s preferable to provide good play-by-play and commentary, or to keep on hyping the teams that sell the most ads.
So many more games are being broadcast, there just aren’t enough quality announcers and commentators to cover them all. Some nights we just have to mute the TV, tune in the school shills on radio and live with the time delay . . .

Yes, Kansas takes great interest in Missouri
right up until July 1, 2012. The identity of both schools has deep ties to the Border War rivalry. Which is why I’m so upset about it ending. The Big 12 did its best to try to keep you around, and I’m sorry the Big Ten turned down your many overtures.
Come July 2, it’s all about focusing on purple. K-State becomes the main rival and TCU a worthy foe – that’s just 40 minutes from my house.
by jayhawk1996 on Feb 2, 2012 10:52 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
You can hardly blame us...
The conference has been a disaster for quite some time in terms of equity in almost any regard you consider.
by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 1:18 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
Things have bene rough, but since teams started leaving
Revenue sharing has been modified and improved, a new TV deal was offered and accepted and the Whiny Orange went 13-12 (6-11 Big 12) on the gridiron and look to be ending their 13-year NCAA tournament streak. Oklahoma State won the conference title, Iowa State got its Hilton Magic back and the Heisman Trophy is resting in Waco. K-State won 10 games and almost got into a BCS game (something that just got a lot harder for you guys).
Say what you want, but Mizzou is giving up a lot more than it’s about to receive. All of this is also why there are 9 teams (and one in particular at the top) that will do anything to deny you the Big 12 hoops championship that’s eluded you for 16 seasons.

You're right...
The inequality in this league has just been so unfair. How could anyone outside of Texas or Oklahoma win anything?!?
Yet, somehow, inthe midst of all this unfairness, each of our footballl programs had a legitimate shot at the conference and national championship. And while ours has dropped off a cliff since, yours has continue to build and flourish. Yet somehow, this inequality just made it unbearable for you all. If you say so, I guess…

The funniest thing about the complaints that the conference is unequal is how similar the SEC is.
MU fans believe that the Big 12 bowl selection process is unfair, and, for some reason, they believe that SEC has a different process that guarantees teams are picked in the order of finish. Except the SEC doesn’t.
MU fans believe that the revenue sharing in the Big 12 is unfair and that the SEC will be different. Except both the Big 12 and SEC will have full sharing of Tier 1, Tier 2 and post-season payouts while allowing schools to retain a game each year for broadcasting themselves.
You guys want to make the best of a new situation, that’s fine. But don’t imagine that everybody sees the world the way you do.

You must have loved Mason then
I remember after one end-of-season game he was doing the post-game presser and I think it was Bob Davis asked him what he was going to do next. Mason said something like: “I’m going to go home and play with my wife”.
The silence afterwards was defening. And awesome.

Interesting question from a Longhorn
So yesterday I was chatting with a Longhorn about football. I didn’t realize that the contract extension Mack Brown signed was strategic…..it was announced just before signing day so that recruits would know he was going to be at UT for a long time.
The Longhorn then asked me: “How is Charlie going to recruit next year when he’s already told everyone he’s only going to coach 5 years? If any of next year’s class redshirts, he’ll be gone when they are Seniors”.
That’s kind of an interesting point. I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I'd say that Mack's pitch is he's gonna be there in 5 years
Charlie’s is still “you have a chance to play right away.” I’d love for KU to have so much talent that it can’t get on the field right away. We’ll cross THAT bridge when we come do it.

recruits get attached to the staff as well, and if he says that so and so is going to be the next head coach that guy would still be around. Who knows.

What's the average tenure of a coach in D-1?
I think most recruits expecting their coach to be there in five years are going to be disappointed.
Heck, another year or two like the last two and Mack Brown won’t make it to the end of that contract.

Lost in the new Mack Brown contract
is the fact that there is a $3.5 million buyout that drops every year between now and 2020.

With TCU and (we hope) WVU joining the league
I’ll go out on a limb and say Weis will be at KU in four years and Brown won’t be at Texas.

It might be time for RCT to require 2 rec's for the green....
The name of that song played at KC Comets games in the '80's was Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase." Now you know.
My impression from other SBN sites is that it's set automatically by the number of recs on the site
If you want to raise the number of recs it takes to make something green, have daily contests where you vote by recommending ala the RockMNation daily photo caption contest.
so you're saying it takes fewer here because we're stingier with the recs?
I write everywhere. You're probably better off following me on twitter
Or maybe 3 or 4...
I occasionaly spend too much time here, but I can’t imagine anyone having so little to do that they can actually waste their time turning comments green. But still, multiple recs is probably a better policy.

maybe they don’t have quality enough writing over there (other than Bill’s stuff). Can’t blame them for wanting to come to RCT all the time.
