Last Trip To Columbia! Hate Week Photoshop Time

Won't get to do this much more. Let's send Missouri to the SEC in style. Soak it in one last time, you final-four-appearance-less conference skipping jerks.

Well Done

I’ll add to Hate Week.

Have to appear occassionally...

It appears I’ll have to find new reasons next year…dumb. I get why KU wouldn’t want to play Missouri in football, you only get 12 games before a bowl. But basketball just makes no sense…you got 30+ games….would be awesome to alternate Lawrence/Columbia or just stay in KC.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 10:26 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

we dont need you

we can get 30 teams better than you to play. whats our incentive?

by dester30 on Feb 2, 2012 10:29 AM CST up reply actions   2 recs

well...

I wouldn’t say we can get 30 teams better, but we don’t really gain anything by playing in KC so I think you’re right that there is no incentive.

Yes

And I’m not sure it’s a close call. And I said KC or alternate home courts. And it’s fairly silly to think that Missouri — the only true DI school in Missouri — needs to play games in Kansas City to keep recruiting there.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 1:22 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

I'd love to see a list of "true" DI schools

But I’d settle for a list of the top 30 basketball programs. I’d love to know who MU’s peers are.

by KSinDC on Feb 2, 2012 3:01 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

I'm excluding...

SLU because since Larry Hughes it doesn’t take STL/KC away from Mizzou and the other non-BCS schools in Missouri don’t either. In football Mizzou simply is the only DI school. Not so sinister.n let me work on the list.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 3:08 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Lawrence is MUCH closer to KC than Colombia

over time KC is going to go crimson and blue

by dester30 on Feb 2, 2012 3:11 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Athletes

In Kansas City want to play at Missouri or Kansas for reasons that have nothing to do with conference affiliation I’d imagine. If they’re truly choosing between the two schools…

1) If they simply want the best basketball schoool, Kansas
2) If they simply want the best football school, Missouri
3) Perhaps its about relationships with coaches or players
4) If its about being close to home, the difference between the two campuses and KC is irrelevant.
5) If they want their families to be able to travel to games I’m not sure Missouri’s SEC move matters, half the games are still in Columbia, and Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Vandy are all close. Plus, most kids aren’t choosing schools based upon where the road games are in proximity to their homes.
6) Will Missouri’s switch matter to SOME athletes in KC? Sure, but to those kids, Missouri playing once in KC isn’t going to be the solution.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 3:56 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

30 Programs...

Its nearly impossible to do this without creating arguments, for example what time period am I looking at? If its forever, than Missouri is in the top 30 in terms of NCAA appearances (28th, I think). But some of the teams on that list haven’t been good in a long time. So I guess we need to decide when “year-in and year-out” begins.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 4:05 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Last 10 years? Last 20 years?

I don’t think MU is making top 30 over either of those time frames. It might make it over the last 30 years.

by KSinDC on Feb 2, 2012 4:40 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Over past 20 years...

Missouri has made NCAA 13 times, out of 1st round 8 times, elite 8 three times, won 20 games 12 times. But if you look at recent history when Missouri has rebounded from Quinn’s downfall, we have 31, 23, 23, and 20 (so far) wins. I think, on average, Mizzou has been a 25 – 30 program for 30 years/20 years/5 years.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 5:05 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Some data

Big 12 teams:
Last five years (since Quin Snyder left following the 05-06 season):
Kansas: 165 wins
Texas: 131
A&M: 124
K-State: 119
Mizzou: 111
Baylor: 106
Ok St: 104
Oklahoma: 96
Tech: 83
Iowa St: 75
If you add in this year’s wins, it doesn’t change the order.

by KSinDC on Feb 2, 2012 5:59 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Before...

Round robin did MU play all teams twice? I don’t remember. But if not, this analysis would skewed by Missouri playing Kansas more than the two teams ahead of them aside from you.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 6:12 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

MU also got home and home against the two worst teams

Nebraska and Colorado.

In general, the North has been the weaker division, so MU has been helped by the unbalanced schedule.

by KSinDC on Feb 2, 2012 6:50 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Wins over the last ten years:

Kansas: 298
Texas: 254
Oklahoma: 219
Oklahoma St: 219
Missouri: 199
A&M: 196
K State: 191
Tech: 187
Iowa State: 157
Baylor: 154

The 5th team in the Big 12 is usually around a 10 seed in the tournament. By that measure, MU would be about the 40th best team in the country over either the last five or ten years. This is a crude analysis, but it lines up with what I’d have guessed.

by KSinDC on Feb 2, 2012 6:04 PM CST up reply actions   2 recs

MU

Has been anywhere from 3 – 11…maybe 7/8 average…so right around 30.

by mpfische on Feb 2, 2012 6:14 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

MU has only made the tournament in five of the last ten years

You have to count all the years (03-04 to 07-08) that they didn’t make it. If they’re a top-30 team in the years that they don’t make the tournament and out of the top 45 for the years they didn’t make the tournament, there’s no way they average top 30 over the whole ten years.

Not going to help Mizzou

cling to its tenuous grasp on the KC sports market. Still having problems getting a flagship radio station? It might be tougher when the schedule is filled with teams from another time zone.

by jayhawk1996 on Feb 2, 2012 10:45 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

This

is the reason. Helping the SEC and Missouri stay relevant in KC is a bad business decision.

by bigreed on Feb 2, 2012 10:58 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

KU is not a charity to support MU.

Removing another game on our non-conference schedule and replacing it with MU costs KU money. Giving up the two games a year we play because you guys want more money and then complaining that we won’t give up money in order to schedule a new series with you is really quite hypocritical.

by KSinDC on Feb 2, 2012 2:57 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Why is this so hard for you guys to understand?

We made it clear that if you left for the SEC, we were done with you. You then made your choice, and that choice has consequences. It’s not like KU suddenly dropped a bombshell after the fact.

You chose money over a hundred plus years of tradition. Don’t dress it up with nicer sounding words like “stability” or “fairness.” Don’t pretend to lament what has been lost. Own it. The Border War is dead, and Missouri killed it by running away.

Rose colored glasses? You said, “we don’t want to play unless the conference makes us.”. You directly said we don’t want to play.

Missouri seeking stability

That one is a joke. Mis use started Big12 instability and then they say they have to leave for a more stable conference. I just hope we meet up in a bowl someday. There will be hell to pay.

Last time I checked

until your basketball team makes a final four, we don’t need new material, slaver.

by rockchalk1187 on Feb 2, 2012 11:29 AM CST up reply actions   2 recs

I'll do "new material"

When your school wins a conference title. No, your ONE tourny title doesn’t count. Screw your lack of final 4s. Just win the league!

Can’t be that hard, we’ve done it 7 times in a row and are in the drivers seat for 8…

by Andrew Clark on Feb 2, 2012 5:19 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

YOU'VE done it?

Man, I never knew Andrew Clark was such a talented basketball player… Don’t get me wrong, I refer to my teams as “we”, but don’t sit there and act like some higher form of human being because the sports team you chose to support has had more success than another, it’s so douchy…

by CapnCribbs on Feb 2, 2012 9:08 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Thats your comeback?

I used “we” to refer to my team? Seriously?? Surely you can do better. Let’s go check and see how many times CapnCribbs calls Missouri we… holy crap!

Also, better check your tone. I’m responding to a Missouri fan’s comment on my post, on a KU blog. So yeah, the “we” is going to be there more and prevalent. How else do you want me to refer to my alma mater? On a KU blog.

And reading your comments about KU in the past leads me to infer that your comment is nothing put pure hypocrisy, mixed with stupidity. So call me douchy all you want, but have something substantial to argue next time. And keep in mind where you are posting. GASP! There might be some pro-KU bias here.

And for MPfische, eff off. Yeah, the Mizzou blog and fans never harp on the same things about KU. Its a gay school! Bill Self wears a toupee! They suck at football! They lost in the tournament.

And I’m the broken record.

Now kindly piss off, and enjoy the rest of your season. Its the best one in school history! Thats gotta be fun. Even if you aren’t leading the league.
