Kansas Football 2012 Schedule Finalized
With the news of a final settlement between West Virginia and the Big East, the Kansas football schedule for 2012 is no finalized. Kansas will again play a three game non-conference schedule followed by a nine game conference schedule.
Kansas will open the season with 1AA South Dakota State before hosting Rice and making the return trip to Northern Illinois as part of the home and home agreement with the Huskies.
During league play the Jayhawks will open by hosting new conference member TCU and close out the season on the road against West Virginia who will take the place of the Missouri game. Kansas will also host Oklahoma State, Texas and Iowa State while traveling to Kansas State, Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma. That means this year the Jayhawks will have six home games with five road games in the league and four home Big 12 games to go along with the two non-cons.
How does this compare to last year's difficult schedule? Probably pretty similar in all reality. Kansas will need a strong showing, ideally a 3-0 start in the non-conference if they want to vie for a bowl birth. Home games against TCU and Iowa State become important as well.

A bit of a break with Okie State coming to town again
Don’t have to play both Oklahoma teams on the road. Still will be tough to beat Gundy’s guys though.
we went to Okie State last year I believe

You're right
Was just reminded of the 70-28 final. Ouch.

I think we gave up...
More touchdowns in that game than the Alabama defense allowed all season.

With the release of the schedule...
It is now becoming more of a reality for me that we won’t be playing Missouri next year. Every Thanksgiving weekend for the past several years we have been unable to travel for that holiday because we would attend that game on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Looks like we’ll be able to go to NYC this year!

Everyone has two byes now in the Big 12
So that they can stretch the schedule out and have games during the conference championships.

Well
Having a bye right before the last game of the season serves no purpose for us. It’s pretty useless.

Except an extra week to prepare for a game that could mean a bowl game or going home for the Winter. However, in the case of next season, @WVU will be one that I don’t think even an extra two weeks of prep would change the outcome.

record wise
I’m thinking what, 3 wins?
Maybe more when you consider we should have beat both Texas Tech and Baylor last year and were in it with Iowa State the full game and I’m assuming coaching will help quite a bit in that regard this coming year.

Five is possible
Six would be awesome – then ladyjay can visit NYC for Thanksgiving and the Pinstripe Bowl at New Year’s.

There's no excuse to lose any of the non-con games...
Within the league, who knows. Hopeful we can steal a couple and get to 4 or 5

Agreed
I don’t look at any Big 12 game and see a guaranteed win but there are multiple where we should have a chance

Considering
we’re essentially building from scratch, it’s hard to make predictions. Having said that, I could see three wins.

I live in DC
and my parents have a vacation place an hour from Morgantown. I may try to go to the football game. I WILL DEFINATELY GO TO THE BASKETBALL GAME!

Thankfully no. We still have another month and a half of great basketball. Followed by many months of baseball.
And why would anyone want to skip summer?
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Well I don't know about boreball, um, I mean baseball but
this summer should rock with the Olympics. Still, nothing compares to college football or hockey……… :-)

Me too!
Love watching the opening ceremonies and always feel a little bummed when the closing ceremonies come around. Looking forward to August! Someday (when I’m rich) I would love to be able to actually attend the Olympics.
What? A girl who likes sports...INCONCEIVABLE!
Me too
I really wanted to go to London because I’m not going to waste money on Brazil 2016, but, alas, the economy didn’t cooperate, and I can’t afford it. When I go, I’m going to have a hard time picking which events to go to. How do you even decide between the first week (opening ceremonies, swimming) and the second week (track and field and most gold medal finals)?
ive never been big on the summer olympics
I have no interest in track and field. Water Polo and Volleyball (not beach) are what I enjoy the most, and I guess gymnastics too but that’s mostly for schadenfreude…

i don’t love the track stuff to be honest other than the 400 meters. I like winter more than summer but temporarily forget about that once every four years

I think all the sprints are awesome in the Olympics.
And the way Olympians run, that includes the 800.

the Beijing opening ceremony
was simultaneously one of the coolest and scariest things I’ve seen. I remember watching it with a Republican friend of mine who made some sort of cmment about the US looking like that in a few years…

Great basketball? You must be more optimistc than me.
Because I think MU is going to win the Big 12, Kentucky is going to win the whole thing, and KU is going to lose in the early rounds. None of that is great in my book.
Baseball? Well, yes, I’ll give you that one. Although come July when the Royals are on pace to lose 90 games again I probably won’t be enjoying it too much.
And I’m not a big summer fan because of the heat. Anything over 85° or so and I start to melt. I’d be thrilled if we could have April and October weather year round.
At least in September I’ll have something new to look forward to, even if the results on the field don’t look all that different.

You might be the only person pessimistic about KU basketball but ready for KU football.
Very interesting perspective.

It's not so much that I'm ready for KU football, as much as it is I expect everything until then to be negative.
I’m ready for the negative stuff to happen so I can start getting over it. Plus come September we’ll only be a month or so away from Late Night, and that always gets me excited.
Of course if KU starts looking better, and/or MU loses one of their next three, I’ll probably start being optimist again.
I agree with this
Past history shows us we are just going to be hurt in March, pissed off, and bemoaning another “how did we lose to them” tournament loss. We’ve been hurt too often before. Time to ready ourselves.
Where as football is new and exciting.

I'm still kinda weirded out by the fact that Charlie Weis is our head coach.
Not bad weird, just…weird. yanmean?

Nope
I’m not weirded out. I’m looking forward to hearing Charlie speak. Win or lose, the guy is an interesting listen. Much in the same way Mike Leach is, except without the pirates, fat little girlfriends, and other associated weirdness.

I'm excited for the fall. Homerism, but still.
I think the biggest thing is simply confidence. This team doesn’t know how to win, how to have a swagger, how to BELIEVE (sorry) that they can finish games. They started grasping it a bit last year (Northern Illinois, close loss to Tech) but it got wiped out when they hit real teams and they got thrashed.
Winning is contagious, sure. So is being competitive. Our guys need to learn some moxie and get a mean streak back. I think these coaches realize that, judging by Weis’ comments, and that our guys will be better organized and have more confidence in their abilities and those of their teammates.
I’ll go total homer and say 5-7, sweep noncon and then home win against ISU. Then one random WTFITS win over someone decent. Look, we have better coaching (not hard to do, I know) and we’ve influxed the program with some high impact players (especially at the most important position on the field). The OLine is still solid. Can run the ball. Offense should be pretty good. IF, and I mean IIIIFFFF the defense can just be better by better organization, scheming and etc, this team will make strides.
5-7 is my pick (puts down jug of koolaid).
Shit happens when you win championships
love it man
you sold me. I’m usually pretty optimistic anyways so it doesn’t mean a whole lot, but I also think our offense has potential to be good. I thought last year that if we had a better QB that we could’ve won another game or two. I don’t know how good Crist will be but I know he’ll be better than what we had last season.
Anyone know when KU is supposed to hear about McCay’s situation?

Hadn't gone farther than we were a good QB away
from 2-3 additional wins last year. Not sure if Dayne will live up to his 5* rating, but I’m certainly confident that he will be an improvement. A young team will be a GOOD offseason more amture, and adding 4 DT’s to the other side should help tremendously as well.
That, and all the stuff Andrew said as well.
If Coach Weis really wants to make a good first impression
He’ll win on the road in Manhattan, KS!!
"No time for questions. No time for games. Start kickin' ass and takin' down the names." - Dave Mustaine.
I think the entire city of Manhattan would be on suicide watch if that happened...
Especially since they all made fun of the hire so much. I’m just giddy at the thought of Snyder retiring in a few years, his son taking over in his spot, and KSU rocketing back down to mediocrity again. 2004-2008 was great, time to bring it back.
Mostly the 4 out of 5 we took from them.

I just feel like there was plenty of talent on Gill’s teams and HCCW has plugged some of the gaping holes.

I'm not saying it's gonna happen
but I feel good about the possibility. Like I said, HCTG’s teams way under-performed for their talent level. I think if our guys played to their talent level the past 2 years we’re good for at least 5 wins.
With a coaching staff that can push a team that’s enough to get at least one more win right?
Thats my line of thinking…

Just yanking your chain. I do think there is a HUGE x-factor in the QB upgrade. Good QB’s make bad teams look good, and vice versa (actually, that one goes beyond “vice versa” (vice vice versa?) b/c it would be Bad QB’s make good teams look bad. Anyway.), so in some sense the turnaround could be more quick than a lot of us expect (a lot of us = me and rivet).

While I agree we have some talent on the roster
A new coach brings in new routines, schemes, rules…….pretty much everything. And it takes time to get adjusted to that.
From the opening kick off (when we can see the names on the backs of the jerseys of the special teams players) things will be better though!
