Dislike for Kietzman aside, is there any validity to this?

I think his point of, "one side dominating" (in basketball) makes it not a rivalry is one we talk about with KState quite a bit. However, I think that argument transcends the KU/MU rivalry.

Thoughts?

It is what it is

A whiny diatribe from an attention-starved K-State fan. Sorry, can’t put the dislike aside.

Over the years, Keitzman has become a whiny, self-important, and rude ass

In his article he makes some points but misses out on the big things, which I don’t think he understands because he isn’t part of it.

I don’t think he can say that if the rivalry was something special that the schools wouldn’t be breaking up. Shit happens. Rivalries aren’t something special, their hatred, plain and simple. Maybe he doesn’t get that because K-State doesn’t really have a rival. We’ve always treated them like the idiot little brother more than the hated child-molesting uncle across the river.

He is thinking mostly of a great sport rivalry and what a sports rivalry should be. KU/MU is more than that though. It is built around a general hatred that both STATES, not just schools, have for each other and that hatred has been around since before the civil war. Is it a sports rivalry, yeah. It’s also much more than that and he doesn’t get that. It’s very one sided in basketball, but the schools, the states, the fans, still hate each other just as much. It’s pretty even in football but no one cares really. We all want to win, not just because it is a rivalry but because we hate the other side. You don’t get the same thing with Texas/Oklahoma or Alabama/LSU, sure they dislike each other but that’s based out of sports.

So in the end, Muck Fizzou, they lost the rivalry because they forfeited. They turned out to be the whiny little losers we all thought they were. It’s the end of one of the only true rivalries to exist in college sports and we won.

Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.

I can't even understand his argument

Yes, the rivalry would be better if MU was our peer, but it’s still a great rivalry.

All-time records are pretty pointless. It’s recent years that matter. It’s the ridiculous recent domination by KU in basketball and K-State in football that degraded that Sunflower State Showdown. The fact that MU has continued to take games from us in basketball has kept the Border War intense.

I’ll be very sad to see the series end, and I’m not sure that MU made the best decision for themselves in the long run, but it’s crazy to say that the rivalry transcends all other considerations. MU felt, for a variety of reasons, that they’d be better off in a different conference than KU. That meant losing their biggest claim to fame on the national stage, but it is possible for that to be the rational decision. I don’t know why Kietzman dismisses it out of hand.

Kietz has lived long enough in KC

to know that Kansas & Missouri hatred goes beyond sports, or KU/Mizzou for that matter. He’s just stirring the pot. Weak sauce Kietz, weak sauce…

The name of that song played at KC Comets games in the '80's was Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase." Now you know.
