The Big 12 released it's Big 12 preseason basketball poll and the coaches have once again voted Kansas as the preseason favorite. The preseason nod marks the 11th time in the history of the league that Kansas has been the preseason selection.
This year was basically a unanimous selection as Kansas garnered nine first place votes with Baylor receiving the lone remaining first place vote. That vote most likely comes from the Jayhawks head coach Bill Self with all nine of the remaining Big 12 coaches voting for Kansas.
The nod is a clear indication of the amount of respect Bill Self has earned over the years and last years Big 12 run during a "down" year certainly affords Kansas a little extra respect when it comes time to make this pick. Kansas will begin defending the Big 12 title led by Jeff Withey, Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford as the three seniors take their turn and look to move Kansas toward a ninth straight Big 12 conference title.
As mentioned Baylor comes in second with Oklahoma State and Texas rounding out the teams that would seem to have a shot at league contention. Newcomers West Virginia and TCU check in a 6th and 10th respectively. All in all the league looks as though it could be down a bit this year, but in the ever changing college basketball world it is always difficult to know anything for sure.
