Tebow Time

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Denver Broncos - Recap - January 08, 2012 - ESPN
Great game, I'm actually pretty much worthless today after going to this one and riding the wave, but Tebow threw the football and Chris Harris is on the field a good 80% of the time at this point and maybe more.A fun time.

When do the polls come out?

I’m a lot less concerned about where we end up as seeing some semblance of order/reality restored with the sacking of the poser tiggers.

I'm surprised to hear of KU fans worrying about polls

I think of that as a concern for fans of teams that aren’t usually very good. In basketball, we get enough data that the computers have a real advantage over the human pollsters. I’ll take a lead in kenpom or sagarin any day over a lead in the AP.

Speaking of which, there's a good piece up on kenpom's blog

About why his system (and many of the other computer systems) have Wisconsin rated so much higher than it seems they should be

Eh it gives something to do during off days.

Also good to track the info just in case you have to deal with insecure, annoying fans of other schools who do care about the rankings.

Definitely not worried

Actually become rather indifferent to the polls, and could hardly tell you where we’ve been at much of any point this season. My interest is with the overrating of mizzoo in particular, and to a lesser degree Baylor. It will be interesting to see what the kitties can do in Bramlage on Tuesday.

I think Baylor is pretty much for real

I have no idea what to make of MU, but I don’t put much weight on their non-conference schedule. I don’t think they necessarily planned it to be so bad, but it’s a stinker, so we’re only now seeing what they’re made of.

I expect ISU may be favored over MU on Wednesday (the game is in Ames), so a close loss wouldn’t be the end of the world for MU, but if they get hammered again like they did at KSU, people in Columbia better start worrying. They’ll have 8-10 games in conference harder than their toughest non-conference game.

Still not sold on Baylor

They struggled to pull away from Tech on Saturday. Many more tests to come for them.

Is there an opening for the next Joe Buck?

I don’t think much of Seth Davis’ analysis of basketball, but he often has good story ideas. There’s some good stuff in his new piece up on SI.com about officiating (although I think he’s wrong on more fouls causing more scoring — I think higher tempo causes both), but in the hoop thoughts section, he has this gem:

Speaking of Iowa State, all props to Minnesota transfer Royce White for his triple-double against the Aggies (10 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists). But if a player has to transfer schools because of a checkered past, he probably shouldn’t take the court with a mohawk that is dyed red. Maybe Royce should just go with the clean-cut look for a while.

Really? Complaining about how “kids these days” cut their hair? Isn’t there some sort of minimum age before you become a curmudgeon?

From that link:
Anyone doubt that Mike Anderson is gonna get it rolling at Arkansas?

Define “rolling” and then I’ll still probably answer with a yes.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Nope

The win Saturday is a sign of things to come. Great opportunity for them to dominate the SEC West – they just need more players.

And in the case of both schools

they should get them. Anderson and Weis are big upgrades from the coaches that were in place previously.
