I think

he’s going to be limited now that we know where to focus our defense. Of course if others are hitting their shots…

If ISU is going to win...

I think Christopherson will be a guy that could have a big game.

Yeah its pretty ridiculous

It seems like everyone thinks that they can act like a 14 year-old on those boards. I am so appreciative that the entire SBnation fanbase seems to be a lot more reasonable than what you find at the LJworld website, ESPN, etc.

Good question.

It’s not like they need a SOS bump but I guess it does guarantee them ESPN time.

by Kenwi Arnason on Jan 28, 2012 1:19 PM CST reply actions

Our offense is terrible

And is killing our defense, our half-court defense has been decent but they are getting us out of position in transition and then exacerbating it by driving and passing.

by 2.1 seconds left on Jan 28, 2012 1:21 PM CST up reply actions

Agree with the O being awful.

We’re fumbling it away underneath the basket so badly it’s letting ISU burn us on the turnover.

At some point Teahan...

by Owen on Jan 28, 2012 1:22 PM CST reply actions

There's no one else?

I mean, I think we can play Ty, EJ, and Trav the rest of the game, but we can’t do that every game. Tharpe is way too turnover prone, and Merv is likely even more terrible on D than Conner.

by 2.1 seconds left on Jan 28, 2012 1:28 PM CST up reply actions

Not having McLemore this season was a huge blow

Self has said so himself many times

Shit happens when you win championships

by Andrew Clark on Jan 28, 2012 1:28 PM CST up reply actions

Possibly but getting him away from the basket could actually help.

He gets pushed so low defensively on the blocks that he doesn’t have a chance. That wouldn’t happen against 3’s, add in Withey/T-Rob/Wesley for help against penetration and I don’t think it’d be horrible.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Is it matchup with Iowa State? I mean we came out and struggled with them at home so we shouldn’t be overlooking them. I get that they are probably amped up but it still feels like we’re very out of sync.

Questions, Comments? email me at denverjhawk@hotmail.com

by Owen on Jan 28, 2012 1:35 PM CST reply actions

Its not that we aren't ready to play

So much as Iowa State is playing really well on both ends and we haven’t been in a real road environment yet this year.

by 2.1 seconds left on Jan 28, 2012 1:36 PM CST up reply actions

They're a good team

playing a good team on the road and I wouldn’t expect to dominate.

by bigreed on Jan 28, 2012 1:36 PM CST up reply actions

And I know the numbers say otherwise but I still think we're way overrated.

Maybe not overrated but Taylor and Robinson have to play very well for us to be very good. If that doesn’t happen, it’s always going to be a struggle.

by bigreed on Jan 28, 2012 1:38 PM CST up reply actions

I also think there is a clear difference in energy between the two teams

ISU seems to be running offensive sets and are flying all over the court when they are playing D. Def feeding off their crowd.

I posted something about Robinson vs. Collison earlier this week

As much as I’m enjoying Robinson’s success this year, I still feel like he’s nowhere close to the player Nick Collison was in college.

I know Collison had four years and got to start for 2 or 3 of those years, but I also think it reflects a bit on how college basketball has been affected by players leaving early. I feel like it took a much better game to be a dominant power forward back then.

Or am I just looking back at my college years with rose-colored glasses?

Hilton Coliseum looks packed

We really get every team’s best shot. I like being the best, but I wouldn’t mind sneaking past an opponent every now and again.

At what point do announcers top talking about how reliable of a shooter Teahan is. Just because he is white and not all that talented relatively speaking, doesn’t mean he is a good shooter automatically.

I don't believe in slumps

It’s just random variation, and he’s still a good 3-pt shooter on the year

by KSinDC on Jan 28, 2012 2:59 PM CST up reply actions

Eh, I definitely believe in slumps.

There are times when the shot doesn’t feel right or the head’s not right, that’s not just random variation.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Letting it slip away here.

except most of his shots that he makes

come in garbage time against bad opponents. he is virtually incapable of making them when they count, and has morphed into a terribly defending, bad pass prone machine

by rockchalk1187 on Jan 28, 2012 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

I looked it up earlier this season, and that's definitively not true

He only has one game where he’s had a made 3-pointer in the last 10:00 of a game against a non-top 25 opponent.

The perception that he does is bizarre to me.

by KSinDC on Jan 28, 2012 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

Regardless

he is a liability. His shooting absolutely does not make up for the gaping hole in our team that he creates when he’s on the floor. He would need to be a lights out shooter to make up for it.

by rockchalk1187 on Jan 28, 2012 3:11 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with that

We have no useful depth.

But I don’t understand people making him out to be a worse or less consequential 3-point shooter than he is. He’s been a big player for us in some big games this year.

by KSinDC on Jan 28, 2012 3:13 PM CST up reply actions

And there really is nobody else.

He is what he is. When he’s in, he takes open shots. On a top 10 team, he’s playing way too many minutes but I’m still not sold this is a top 10 team.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Welp…they executed on offense down the stretch and we’ve been bad most of the day. Doesn’t kill us but it is a little frustrating to play so poorly and still have had a shot late. This game really could have helped cement our positioning, just wasn’t happening and I think everyone was calling for it.

Definitely missed a chance

to take complete control of the conference.

by hunter s. royal on Jan 28, 2012 3:09 PM CST up reply actions

That's the most frustrating part.

Been worried about this game since the one in Lawrence, but I thought we’d come out better than we did knowing that we had a shot to really take control of the conference.

30+ minutes a game finally getting to him?

He hasn’t been his super-human self these last few games. Seems like he gets his averages, but the domination doesn’t seem to be there.

by De-Freeze on Jan 28, 2012 3:15 PM CST up reply actions

His minutes are also rough.

Teams are beating him up below the basket, he’s got to be a little worn down.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I thought they played pretty well

Their defense was good, and they certainly worked hard.

I think our defense deserves credit for their poor shooting.

by KSinDC on Jan 28, 2012 3:08 PM CST up reply actions

This game really reinforced our lack of depth

Young showed some flashes earlier in the season, but there’s nobody off our bench I have any confidence in at this point. When any of the starters get in foul trouble, there’s a huge drop off.

by KSinDC on Jan 28, 2012 3:12 PM CST up reply actions

I disagree.

They turned it over, but they played great D most of the game and out-rebounded us by a ton. Tough to win on the road, and we all knew that this was going to be a really tough game.

Lets beat the shit out of OU Wednesday

by 2.1 seconds left on Jan 28, 2012 3:13 PM CST reply actions

Damn

we have to play ISU in Ames next. I was hoping you guys would give them another loss before then.

by ksu&warpaint on Jan 28, 2012 3:13 PM CST reply actions

Zero bench help.

2 baskets, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist from the bench. Without Robinson and Taylor being All-American level, that’s enough to keep the team from being good.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Fetch did some good work earlier in the year on the importance of the bench

I feel like it showed that depth wasn’t that important.

Fetch, do you still have any of that data that you could compare our poor depth to previous good teams?

by KSinDC on Jan 28, 2012 3:16 PM CST up reply actions

It might not be over the course of a season but I'd argue it is very important in a single game.

The difference being foul trouble in a game can force the bench on the court.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

by Warden11 on Jan 28, 2012 3:18 PM CST up reply actions

Oh, I definitely agree that it made a difference this game

I’d also think it would wear a team down over the season.
